Been wondering that myself. I assume my sovereign doesn't meet some prerequisite, but I have no idea what.
39 here. In a few decades I should be just about ready for my midlife crisis. [e classic]:hot:[/e] Anyway, am I the only one who thinks that the gaming hobby has become increasingly cynical over the last decade? It boggles my mind the number of actually very good games that are brutally ripped to shreds by the gaming press and "fans". It's as though a game can only be "Awesome!" or "Utter crap!" and nothing in between.
Oh you can't play it?
Assuming the minimum requirements are accurate (the biggest thing is that none of the games I listed require a dual core CPU). But that won't stop me from checking out the demo. Worse that'll happen is that it will simply crash like the Arkham Asylum demo. [e classic]:D[/e]
...if it happens too often it can derail the momentum of the game. Especially in multiplayer...
This is actually a good argument for treating multiplayer as a separate game with its own rules and play mechanics, but when Brad suggested that, all he got was whining from people who were upset that multiplayer was being "gimped".
Minimum requires a graphics card that is 4 years old (which now costs like 30 dollars). Sure is state-of-the-art...
Just to put things in perspective, my system can play games like Borderlands, Bioshock, Fallout 3, and StarCraft II without a problem, but it can't play Civ 5, a turn-based game. Now tell me there's not something wrong with that picture.
As far as my memory goes, Civ IV had a rough release with serious issues. No one remembers that user that made a patch to solve some serious memory issues? No one remember the huge version number that the patch that made the game playable had? (still unplayable in biggers maps though, that was corrected in the next patch) Maybe I come from an alternate universe where Civ IV was unplayable out of the box. Game mechanics wise
I chose Elemental over Civ 5 because Firaxis apparently thought a turn-based strategy game needed state-of-the-art graphics, and I think it's insane that you need a monster gaming rig to play a turn-based game. Plus, I really like the idea of playing a character that actually inhabits the game world. Oh, and I'm also not particularly enthused with 2K's DRM or this whole idea of selling you parts of the game piecemeal via DLC.
Seemed to be a pretty reasonable articulation of what the game is not.
Bingo. A game should be reviewed for what it is and now what it isn't . Heck, even StarCraft II could be given a low rating if you judged it based on everything it isn't. Judged on its own merits, I think Elemental deserves a 7.
Some of these reviews read like kicking someone while they're down. Elemental hardly deserves a 4.

The outlines have nothing to do with showing borders. It's a graphic feature that puts a "hard edge" around 3D objects, that is the black outline that gives the game its cell-shaded look. Toggling that feature shouldn't affect the area-of-influence border.
This is an interesting thing to watch. It reminds me a lot of the Hellgate: London fiasco, actually, but with some key differences. I remember during the Hellgate: London beta, beta testers were begging Flagship to delay the game because we could see it wasn't ready, but we were assured by the development team that their in-house build was weeks ahead of what we were playing and that we shouldn't worry. When the game was actually released, it turned out that there was only
The good news is that the latest patch tripled my framerates. The bad news is that I'm still only getting 12FPS. Granted, I have a low-end system, so a vast improvement at any rate. And I still prefer the cloth map.
