If I'm not mistaken, Linux used to be pretty much neck-in-neck with Apple. Of course that was before Apple's relatively recent big-time marketing push.

Without a big marketing budget behind it, I think Linux will always be a niche operating system (at least for the home consumer), and I say that as someone who has used it

It has been my experience that it's younger gamers who can be unreasonably critical, as if they're so intent on looking for flaws that they forget to simply have fun.
All that matters in the end is whether or not you find a game enjoyable to play, and believe it or not, a game doesn't have to be a finely polished AAA masterpiece for it to be fun.

If a software project is designed from the beginning with cross platform support in mind (in other words, no DirectX) then 99% of the work is done because all the versions could use a common code base and only the "hooks"
Some of the death animations use Havok ragdolls- for instance, when a mighty wallop sends a unit flying through the air - but otherwise it doesn't seem to be used in the game. I think they licensed it back when tactical battles were intended to be real-time, which makes sense, but there's really no point to it now.

I'd love a Linux version of Elemental, but since the game is dependent on DirectX then I think it unlikely since the rendering engine (among other things) would need to be completely rewritten.
I disagree with the "key component" argument. It'd be one thing if there were only two civs in the base game in which case I'd consider a third civ to be a pretty big deal, but when the game comes with almost two-dozen out of the box, the argument is less forceful. I will agree that an additional civ is a really nice bonus, but I disagree that it's an essential one. That said, I dislike the whole notion of exclusive free content based on which retailer you buy the game fro
I'd like to see a "retreat" option added to the battle screen so that you could fight, auto-resolve, or retreat. Of course there would have to be some sort of penalty so that it's not a "free" option (maybe all units lose hitpoints equal to 50% of their maximum health, so that if a unit is below 50%, it'll be killed).
Hello, troll.
So I guess you want the Civ 5 fanboys clogging up the forums with useless trolling...
Wow, the Elemental tech tree is a lot more extensive than I thought.

I believe it is Stardock's goal to maintain compatibility across versions. The only reason 1.06 "broke" previous saves is because Stardock was getting support tickets with save files from the beta , so in order to create a clean slate, they simply hard coded it so that previous saves wouldn't work in order to force everybody to start a new game.
