But they are making economic decisions to gain sales and save money. In capitalism, that is the right move. It's a terrible system, but it's the best system we have. They would only fail if they tried to keep up to your unwavering principals. Steam will offer thousands of more users. So following your logic, you want them to fail if they try to survive, but you want them to survive if they allow themselves to fail? It's not like they all sat in a room thinking of ways to piss off

Thanks, I sometimes forget to be clear with what I am thinking. Keep in mind the numbers are just guess to have my intended effects. Smoke Bomb would likely come at level 8. In a smoke bomb situation: -Regular troops are screwed -Lower level heroes would be at a large disadvantage -Heroes of the same level but not specialized in a roguish path are at a disadvantage -Roguish heroes, like Assassins, at the same level are at some disadvant

I am a hardcore survivor. I would have taken the guy on the fence. You can use him as a distraction later on if you need to. Nor would I leave behind a gun or a flashbang. Not that I want you to survive, but please use a full facemask with any weapon. The spray is unbecoming and may turn you dead. Scythes and axes tend to get stuck in heads. Blunt is always better if you have the strength for it. Let the weaker decoys carry the sharp stuff. I do have an icepick fo

Unfortunately I too cannot tell is FE is going to be well received by the masses of new players. I have been too close to the game. But I can tell you that I like it.

I guess my principals are based on cost. What am I paying to play a game with Steamworks? I have to pay money and allow some data collection. I have to give up some rights to the software, but I generally get access to a cloud network. I have had Steam since Counterstrike: Source came out. Never had a problem as a customer. As far as Stardock games, in my opinion you are getting some extremely great service and guarantee of quality. Supporting a great company like them should override an

No. I am saying that Steam has very little effect on my PC. Anyone willing to not buy Rebellion that loved the previous installments simply because it is on steam is overreacting... like when Bill shot Black Mamba in the head overreacting. It's a slight hassle, not big brother scanning your computer for illegal content. Get some perspective. Or don't. You guys are funny to watch when you crack all the way. Just make sure you put it on Youtube.

Trogs: Ah the noble savage. It was a racist abomination in novel form in the days of the old west. But since Trogs are actually a different race, I like the idea that they have a certain nobility to their savagery. You could even read some of that racist trash from the dime novel days for inspiration. Or just use the Klingon model: Honor in death.

Relax. Most of the first class American citizens (corporations) you think are watching you are in fact not watching you. The ones you think are relatively safe are in fact scanning your computer as you read this. And one of your family members is telling them everything they want to know about your bowel movements. She will not be named. [e digicons]:ninja:[/e]

There is a new Stardock download thingy in development. I know it is supposed to work for Elemental. I never got to play Sins online because by the time I bought it everyone had become too good at it or just left. Plus you can't have mods in multiplayer. So in essence this won't affect me in the least. Probably a good call to put an MP focused game on Steam. Losing the odd SPMaverick is probably best for the company anyways.

Always nice to see a new poster. Is that a Serenity Firefly or just the shiny bug type? I think the current system can work fine as long as it is balanced well. I would of course rather have a more complex initiative system, but it's not something I have reason to think is possible at this stage in development. We have about another month of beta 2 and maybe 2 or three more of beta 3. At this point it is more effective to think of ways to balance the current system, than think of

Tarth could have some grow trees spells to impede armies. Combine that with boots of the forest, a forestwalk spell or trainable trait and we are on our way to some difference. I bet the hardest part about writing conversations is trying to make the game mechanics feel well connected to the lore, when the writers are probably not hardcore TBS gamers. Are the writers in the internal beta? (Besides Fb of course)

I thought about that, but I eventually realized that any trait like that would be obsolete with the current Accuracy system. If Accuracy is going to increase with level for heroes, so will the Assassin's Dodge. The Assassin's Accuracy will also increase much faster than other Paths and will thus be able to attack in smoke against weaker units. Many Assassins will use bows, so I don't want to penalize them for that. Playing Counterstrike: Source, I learned h

Which races will be isolationists? I loved how unique it felt to invade Yor space with all their defenses and the movement penalty. Tarth seem like they could be somewhat isolationist in nature.

Staves are way underpowered at the moment. I would rather intelligence boost magical damage over unit level as many of them currently use. But non-magical staves are far too weak as well. The War Staff has no difference from the basic Staff. It would make sense to have staves offer limited armor and some dodge for the War Staff. Otherwise it is just going to be another unused weapon at the beginning of the game.

AoE spells have been drastically changed. Need next beta to know if it is a good balance.

If hills gave extra range to archers, the kited army could just move to a defensive position.

The balance Kael seems to be going for is one where strength based weapons damage differently than dexterity based weapons. Ranged weapons should be using dexterity damage, they just shouldn't be getting the same amount of damage as melee weapons. There are two ways to do good damage, high attack and critical hits. Attack is based on strength and crits are based on dexterity. The problem is that trained units can never crit and thus any bow has extremely limited effectiveness in thei

Brad indicated that if FE is a huge success, he will allocate some funds to make WoM what he wanted it to be on release. But that will be a very long time from now.

If you get no more replies it is because we all agree with you, but have nothing to add. Expect a damage mod if for some reason the devs overlook this.
