No offense, but I don't want the solution to the balance problem to be fixed with a capture the control point gimmick. That has nothing to do with war. You might expect something similar to happen with really good terrain bonuses though. Armies will be trying to control hills and stay out of marshes.

The events system is great because now we can implement faction specific events. In Galciv every once in a while a faction might have a total change of leadership and change to the opposite alignment. In FE we could instead have an AI faction go on a crusade of vengeance against some real or imagined offense. Much like Pearl Harbor, the whole society might become warlike and start attacking perceived enemies, changing that factions dispositions. Join in the fight or die as a traitor. A factio

Where is the Galactic Civilizations 3? If you want a surefire hit, you already got it. Just use the new engine to make the next Galciv and this time with multiplayer on steam. Instant millions.

There isn't much to do at level 50. I find it's more fun to play more of the class stories I haven't tried yet. Imperial Agent is the best so far.

So I guess the balance factor is (experienced units that have earned their power) and (the necessity for new units to be viable throughout the game). Initiative is just one aspect of this balance issue. I want to see more of beta 2 before I can say much more. Right now it seems that the Civilization Tree needs to offer some unit traits that can make low level units competitive.

Don't forget that the Gilden enslaved the Tarth for generations. They should always be at odds. If you are the Gilden and the Tarth become more powerful than you, expect a surprise attack or "reparations" as they call it. They should always play the slave card in negotiations. If you are Tarth, the Gilden should respond to you with derision, as you are nothing more than a band of rebel slaves.

A level 15 Army can wipe the floor with a level 15 hero. They have a huge amount of HP and can be upgraded with extremely powerful weapons.

Yes. I will use the slot system I mentioned above. Good Call. This kind if unit will be a great choice in a battle. Do you want to attack an adjacent enemy or throw an ax at less damage to kill off a weakened unit?

One thing you might expect me to make is a good throwing ax. I am thinking 8 Cutting Damage, +1 to crit, can be thrown for 5 Cutting Damage, range of 3.

I don't like the idea of an initiative cap. This is a fantasy game. It's fun to be able to have very powerful heroes that can wipe out entire armies. Beyond that, I have seen many fights in real life where one opponent strikes four or five times as much as his enemy. Since this is fantasy, it doesn't seem odd that a level 15 hero can strike three times faster in a round. They just need to balance things so that it is not so easy to get Initiative at low levels. I just raised up Ma

I have one ability for warriors that ignores 66% of armor. I could make a few special ones for roguish heroes. I am thinking of having some abilities used once per battle, but with the option to have it appear twice or three times with new traits. So you could choose to have 3 piercing strikes per battle. Other, less powerful, abilities could be usable every X turns. The thing to do would be to add the ability to the weapon itself. That would mean a core mod and I

You make a good point about there needing to be some balance or possible redesign of the economy system. This game is supposed to play as a TBS/RPG, but tactical so far has much more put into it than the strategic level. There is an absolute disconnect between the value of hero objects in gildar and the value of city objects in gildar. Someone has also pointed out that selling just a few magical items and the loot from adventuring can allow you to rush buy units and buildings that for some re

Yes, but that trait or even weapon would be superseded by any use of an ability. So the ability Critical Strike would not be able to ignore armor, but a regular shot could. It would be too hard to balance this way.

66 Replies 36,496 Views

It is impossible to change people's minds about these things. I can tell you that in a decade I have gotten more access to games from Steam sales and gotten better games with better MP from Steamworks. Why should I care about who technically owns the software? It's not like there is ever going to be a point where I will lose access to my games. In more than a decade I have not lost a single one. It should be illegal to sell a game on a disc that requires that disc to play. Discs

I just found out that crits work differently than I thought. Apparently they do not ignore armor. The attack needs to roll 10 more on the accuracy roll and then make the crit roll. Then the max damage is multiplied by the crit multiplier. So I will have to alter many of these Paths to have high accuracy to be able to crit alot. They will also need outright attack bonuses for it to mean anything. That is, unless the accuracy per level is dropped and Dex is used to increase bow damage. Until th

Did you notice that when you click on the chart in the OP there is a sheet 2 option in the top left corner. I haven't set any of that in stone yet or anything, I am just thinking about connections. I like Shadow Dancer alot. I have already slated Marksman though. Archer-->Marksman-->Sniper
