"Or a chance to sustain new negative traits?" I second that as well. Negative traits add a lot more character to a hero. Extra kudos if you can code it to make the table for determining the random trait based on what enemies or attacks the hero was defeated in combat with.

Sorry Frogboy, when you compare E:WOM which was disastrous by all common measure and then say E:FE will be boring just like it is really casting bad press on the game. It isn't because we expect better graphics, sound or any big bangs like that. Quite the contrary beta 1 of E:WOM was far more fun than anything we've had since release with all the graphics, sound, and playability issues worked out. If all you did was remake "Master of Magic" for the 21st century it woul

I think realistic maps tend to be a lot of fun. The random maps I have enjoyed the most actually belong to the Firaxis game Alpha Centauri. They had various planetary features of importance that would appear in different locations on different continents when generating a random map. But most importantly, none of it matters if you don't have locations of importance. Ditching the global resources and making location matter again is the most important part of all of it.

Giving FE away for free isn't just about how E:wom turned out in the end, it's about how it was handled from the start. The next game, however... that might feel a bit wrong to take for free (for those of us who pre-ordered E:wom). We will see after FE, eh. Maybe there won't be a third game.
This!
The game mechanic I am interested in seeing is one that rewards the player for intelligently planning out their cities. I.e. better to have fewer, better cities than more, wimpier cities.
Been arguing that for so long..., but how can you do that within the current resource context where cities generate resources based on tech?

First and foremost I wanted WoM to be a good successor to Master of Magic finally, which it utterly failed to do. Dynasties, Good AI, modding where all very nice extras but they were still extras (actually modding became less of an extra after it was promised during beta as a remedy to some of the rather unpopular directions they were taking the game). If they can just make a good successor to Master of Magic, then FE will be a success to me. After they've proven they can do that

The first two choices were in Beta 1, but Stardock made a conscious decision to move away from them. They made a bunch of unusual and conscious decisions to ask us our opinion, get longed detailed feedback and see what people wanted. Then go off on a different tangent entirely. Just like they launched prematurely before people who were participating in beta thought it was ready. See early discussions on the game's economy and city development if you have any doubt.

Heard this a lot before E:WOM and during early beta. But it ended up so, so far from that. It is a great idea to stick to MoM, but it needs less mentioning and more doing. Hopefully with Derek on board we can see that.
That's a great update chief . Forgive me if I'm wrong, but, the description above seems to fit in a lot with what was originally planned with Elemental doesn't it? If not what "was planned", then perhaps I should say what "was wanted"? I know we've covered these ideas before, especially city specialization, which I my-self made a post about a long time back. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's in the big Idea's List. <br /

Just sounds like a lot of the things that the forum community loved in the early design and beta stages of WOM that got gutted as you chased after making the game more like a RTS wanna-be in stop motion. This time when you finalize your game vision, please don't change it unless it is actually popular with the customers. As for multiplayer, for all TBS games I love to play them cooperatively when I can and only super rarely play them competitively against other players. Some o

It would be nice if they actually gave more weight to beta tester opinion that they repeatedly disregarded when they didn't like what was being said, i.e. the disastrous launch and others they consciously ignored negative fe

I like the art direction and style a lot. I like the quest system. I like the dynasty concept. I like the unit designer. I like the tech research system. I have to applaud this idea, but all to often in the beta program the baby did get thrown out with the bathwater.

Anyway, the point is, we looked through the forums during the beta and made a great deal of changes based on feedback and suggestions (the concept of global food
