Whoa...it ate my post. :-/ Basically, I was saying that the entire entertainment industry is going through massive changes as they try to deal with balancing profit, preventing piracy, and satisfying customers, and that I have no idea - not even a guess - how it'll all end up.
Most of my techie buddies swear by AVG by Grisoft, The home version is free.

Select "Options" from the menu. In the General tab (should be the first one displayed) click on the box next to "enable on Startup." This will put a shortcut into your Startup folder so it opens when Windows boots.

Open up TweakUI. Click on "Desktop" on the left - the word itself, not the expand sign next to it. That'll give you the option to toggle the basic Windows icons on and off, including the Recycle Bin. I use it myself rather than "Hide Desktop Icons," as the latter can confluct with DesktopX.

I had an issue with a couple of motherboards I ordered through Newegg. Not only did they accept the RMAs without question - actually, the second time the gal on the phone did run through troubleshooting, but in a very pleasant way, and I appreciated the help - they even ate the return postage the second time and credited my card within minutes of receiving the bad parts. I've now built two full computers through Newegg and will never, ever buy my parts from anyone else.

That says nothing about deception; indeed, it sounds much more like a marketing SNAFU than any deliberate attempt to conduct fraud against consumers. They should've made more clear that "Vista Capable" meant "will run the new OS without the extra pretty stuff" and "Designed for Vista" meant that the buyer would get all the bells and whistles. Enlisted at a late age in 2004 and was out by 2006 thanks to an early heart attack. I have flat feet as well, so when the time came to do the light box test, I just sort of forced them to arch. For the brief time I was in, I was a proud 19K (M1 Abrams crewman).
That's the best solution. Office 2007 will install alongside your current programs (except for Outlook, which I'm given to understand hasn't seen much upgrade anyway) so you can give it a spin. Note that, if you're pressed for time, you can load, edit, print, and save as any previous version of Office, so you don't have to reformat/lay out. With a bit of experimentation, it appears that the big difference I've seen is in how page breaks and large text boxes are handled.
Yowch. In that case, I will go ahead and lift out the various bits I want and run them through my current programs (whatever those may be). That's okay as long as I don't redistribute, right?

However, Office 2007 natively seems to handle art better anyway, so it shoudl only take a minute or two. It can also load and save in all previous formats, but you'll have to be careful when combining this ability with the new features
I know some pretty hard-core web developers, and their major complaints about IE7 and what's been reported for IE8 is all the backwards-compatibility code so that old, hacked-up IE6 sites aren't broken. This is bad, because bad code *should* be broken, and these companies have had several years to fix their sites. If you're coding properly, your website will display correctly in any modern browser. It might not look exactly the same, but that's the point of HTML being a markup language
It's not like the Mods are some faceless, soulless monsters that are just waiting to stamp out all creativity in would-be skinners. As long as the Mods are prepared to give a good reason for their rejections if asked, I stand by my vote to keep it best-of-the-best.

Now, if you were writing for me, it'd be a different matter, but internet forums shouldn't be held to as high a standard. No kidding. When I was showing how it worked to my roommate, she asked a simple question: "Okay, what if you want the text centered?" I hadn't used centering on Word '07, so I had to hunt for it. Took me all of two seconds to find without cheating by right-clicking. The other thing that got me was the smart formating. Click on a word and hit the formatting you want, and it'll apply it to the whole word. No more laboriously highlighting everything!
This is exactly what I want: a one-stop source for everything StarDock. I'd love to be able to load one program, select from installed and downloadable content, and have it applied from the same interface.
Check this out: I'm working on a very graphics-heavy document. I was struggling in Office XP, fighting the interface more than I was producing material. As a test of Office 2007, I went ahead and compiled the same product - and had it put together, edited, bookmarked, and published as a .pdf in about 30 minutes for 50 pages. Damn.
