If Brad is correct (And I have no reason beyond my typical cyncism to suspect he isn't) then you can strip out the city-building and build a serious D&D mod. If someone sets up a team to do this, I am most definitely in. The only limits I can think of are: Creature creation (Though I believe Brad has stated that you can make your own unit models) Dice rolling?

I'll point out Blizzard is horrendous in their ripping-off of established IPs, or even basic mythology, though you really can't call them on the second one. Almost everything is, so. . . Anywho, what's the point of this post?
I still giggle maniacally every time I find a potion.
Hrm. I've been buying stuff on Steam as a matter of course. I have a few things on Impulse because you folks got it working faster or had it released earlier. Might have to change that, coming soon here. As it stands, I'm rather tired of companies discussing their number of 'active' or 'working' accounts. Maybe that's just my hatred for Blizzard talking. Hnh.
And as such, the non-combat based SOV, will still surely have to face the "Wilds" for the first early turns with nowhere to die back to. Game over!
Reminds me of Age of Empires/Mythology nomad maps with AI or poor players. 3 minutes into the game "Such and such has been defeated!" Damn crocodiles.

However, it wouldn't be a gaming magazine if they didn't foul up somewhere important each issue. So this could be misinformed stuff going to print, which happens a frightening amount.
*Reads the thread and proceeds to drool senselessly for a few hours* Huzza-whatsabisty? Oh. No.
There's no sandbox at the moment, but the 'training wheels' are off after you kill Bardylis. Constant raids can be stopped by taking over certain cities in enemy territory. That said, I had to reload a saved game from just after (maybe 10 minutes?) defeating Bardylis, because the shit hits the fan incredibly quickly, especially if some of Bardylis' hoplites got away during the fight and you've moved your units elsewhere. All said, it is challengin
So I decided to play through Oblivion again, and I started up a new game and watched the intro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGyw_0IG5s0 As it sweeps in on The Imperial City and the credits roll and the upbeat, military music plays, I get all teary eyed and nostalgic, because I remember that music from so many hour of Morrowind. Oblivion may be a poor pretender to the Elder Scrolls throne, but that intro always takes me back to better days.
I'm very sure, when you folks release Beta 2, I will have several moments, somewhere, possibly entirely seperate, where I go "Wow, this was here all along? Goddamnit Brad, why couldn't I have had this earlier?" Now, mind you. I still play things like Tropico 1 and 2, and Rollercoaster Tycoon. Partially because I'm a crazy person and enjoy management games. Partially because the gameplay is good and satisfying. Certainly not because of graphics, or stuff they could have had those games
I may have just found my new addiction. I'll be getting it later this week after my pocketbook recovers from SC:C.
/glee Bring on the awesome.
Huzzah indeed! Bring on Beta 3! (I know I'm jumping ahead.)
I believe the words you folks are looking for is "a shattered urn " as opposed to "earn" (I'm talking about goodie hut flavor text.)
It is both useless and a waste of bandwidth. I found it hilarious. Apparently my sense of humor needs realignment.

*Sighs* Watch the rest of it, numbnuts. Suffice to say: Laser Cancer Jesus. (The band is actually these guys: not the 'boyband' in the music video. Kindly shove off.)
I adjusted my previous post. Read a bit more of the thread. I still don't really get the major argument in play. I'm still a bit (lots) snappish in my revision of my post. I understand the 'directly supporting Steam' bit, but it still seems. . .eh. Maybe that's why I'm not a CEO at Trump (Insert Business Organization Word). Dunno. It remains that I really don't see the fuss.
. . .Wow. So they sell it only over Steam. It's not like this sort of thing hasn't happened before. It's like the new Ubisoft DRM all over again. If you don't like Steam, fine. Congratulations. I'm happy for you. You can't install it, and leave it off 23/6 because you aren't playing the game at the time? Is this just elitism? Is this "OH NOEZ! TEH GUVURNMUNT IS STEALING MAH INFOEZ!"? What's the big problem with Steam? You ha
I am ready to proceed, based entirely on my own level of game stability. Also, you post a lot, Tasunke. I can never keep up.
. . .With all the children of the internet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaCZN2N6Q_I&feature=player_embedded Disclaimer to prevent further stupidity: The 'boyband' in the video doesn't actually exist and gets utterly destroyed by Laser Cancer Jesus. Watch it.
The name needs to be both elegant and powerful, and ever so slightly sinister, IMO. Such as my earlier names do not fit the idea, so. Overseer Consul Custodian (Keep in mind, in a 'medieval' setting, custodians helped run kingdoms, not so much of the mopping floors) Adviser (Though I imagine this is already in place somewhere else in the game) Vizier

*Sets up a machine gun in the doorway and dares someone to come ruin this beautiful idea for an entirely second game within the first* I do have a single question on the idea, though. "Of course, it also means the Empires can harvest fewer special resources in the world." What's the mechanical effect of this, precisely? If you can say at this point.
