Hammers? What is this hammers business you speak of?
Shields is the older term, but I think CIV IV has been out long enough we can talk about hammers instead :P. Original comment was split between (CIV) and (Elemental), sorry for the confusion...
forge in a low-production city
Incidentally those forges provide +25% hammers for whipped population so sometimes they're even more useful for low hammer cities... But yes, there's not much thinking going on in what buildings I build, though I have been giving some thought to the order in which I build them. Resources available is my primary limiter in the early game, but once I've broken out of the early game and have a few cities going (2 - 3), it really
Frogboy said the first beta 2 had an over abundance of iron, it's possible this version has the opposite problem. Long live heavy leather units. - Othello
A fully clad heavy leather elite spearman has a respectable 15 HP and 8 Defense, it's in Attack where he falls short. Fortunately, the Sovereign, Champions, and Family can all purchase swords from shops...
In Civ there was a small flashing message that said "Press Enter or click to end the turn" or something like that. It is a great indication that there are no more movement left. I'd like to see something like this in Elemental. Or maybe the end turn button glows or something. It's been a while but I don't remember what GalCiv 2 did to indicate it there were no more units to move and to click end of turn button.
The actual end-turn button also changed colors and sta
I actually like this idea. What's the point of having bizarre tattoos all over your sovereign if the helm and armor cover them up after the first few turns?
You can always invest in the magic line and come up with enchanted rings / cloaks etc...
When two borders meet, I get a strange fringe effect sometimes:
Select two units to attack out of the city (using shift-click). First one succeeds, second one also attempts to attack and the game crashes. On reload, this behavior was not repeated.
Hmm, why everyone talking that they have same defence? Heavy plate armlets give 4 DEF (also lower ATK speed) and Metal shield only 3 DEF. And yes, they must be different in abilities, and shield must lower movement more and give more protection. But imo its all because BETA and many things not yet sorted out..
Standard Shield v. Non-Metal Armors is 1 Def & 1 Def. The current beta map, or
The terrorized village and a couple of other quest points spawn fertile ground in the 9 tiles (center and 8 surrounding). They also put up your influence, which goes away after you finish the quest. Perhaps this is just a stopgap to keep the AI from swooping your quest?
They are mutually exclusive right now. Frogboy has mentioned that shields will have a block chance, so that equipping shield versus bracer is not going to be as simple a decision as it is right now (where both give the same defense rating).
A reload fixes the issue. Perhaps something in memory or in the algorithm that decides what gets drawn at a particular zoom level having a missing case?
Zooming in and out different buildings are available to see. This breaks at some point, only closely causal event is building a fortress in a city (see the nice wall in the bottom city?)
Debug is at \Documents\My Games\Elemental If you've played another game since then, I'm pretty sure you've flushed the debug file.

I would prefer that things be WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get), but can see why folk want their sovereigns and champions to look special. Suggestion: have special armor assets that are used for Sovereigns and Champions versus the normal armor assets used for the mere mortal chumps.

All traits except move increment by 1/point. Move increments by 0.2/point. Wow thats gonna seriously slow the game to a crawl, and make tracking a even higher must have trait. I really have to agree with some earlier posters that the Sovereigns base speed should be 2. 1 is just to

Incidentally, the update is up on Impulse now.
Great! Can't wait to dive into the technology system again and see what suggestions we can offer.
Currently higher level walls are built as buildings in each city.
The forums will light up when the update goes live. Traditionally they shoot for the end of their Thursday workday so that they can do some work on Friday after the beta has gone out into the wild.
Do people who pre-order from gamestop get beta 2 access? No.
Longer answer: Like most things in life, it all depends upon how you look at it: Gamestop and Stardock mean different things when they say "Pre-order". Gamestop is offering you a pre-order in the traditional sense. You pre-order the game, the game comes out, is shipped to Gamestop who then hands you a box. At any time i
Right now the empire tree is being used only for Sovereigns, Champions, and Cities. You bring up a good point about the possibility of large maps having cluttered empire trees, and it is definitely an issue we should think about as development goes on. Looking at the current system, I do think it will scale better than the one used in SoaSE because we are not keeping track of every single ship/unit in the tree. That said, I like the empire tree. It gives me all my cities i
