My parts list is Socket AM3 dual core processor, PSU, motherboard, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM. All from Newegg. The reason for the new CPU, is there is no socket AM2 cooler mounting on the CPU socket. I could go with quad core, but, I do have to buy food also.

Well, I found a replacement mobo up at Newegg, which means that I can use everything except the floppy drive. I do have an unused X2 3800+, which I may use just to be sure. New PSU definitely. It uses DDR2, so I can simply use what I have (16 GB or 8 GB). Cheap replacement. This is going t cost less than I thought.

I am officially declaring my Athlon 64 X2 5200+ system DEAD as of this morning. Nothing I have tried has brought it back to life. It has given me years of good service. Most of the parts can go into a new system. Fortunately. Motherboard, Processor, memory, PSU, a new UPS, and OS. Most everything else I can use from the dead one. The Lensman series by E.E. "Doc" Smith. 6 actual books in the series. Very old and classic space opera. If you want to go nuts finding them, the Perry Rhodan series, of which most are in German only. Only 6,000 or 8,000 books in length. The Dragonrider series is excellent, and Anne's son has taken over the series.
