What I like about Elemental is how you can establish vassal kingdoms and such... so actually you can attempt the ICS strategy, but the disadvantage is that you'd have to split your empire to pieces and ultimately all those other cities would be fairly unreliable or even turn against you. To me, more and varied strategies = good.
Sorry, but 1000 thousand great story reasons don't justify a bad gameplay reason. This is a game, not a story. Justifying sovereigns not dying in certain conditions because powerful people don't die in books makes no sense because this is not a book. If you want to justify it, justify it around gameplay. And story is not required, I don't remember MoM having story to be crazy enjoyable (and deep, and complex).
Mas
This is a pretty good explanation behind why Sovereigns wouldn't resurrect, I think. I know I've been a pretty big proponent of Life After Death for a sovereign, especially considering they are special individuals. There are, after all, so many story arcs based on resurrecting gods. What it really comes down to is the metaphysics of Elemental. What happens when characters die? Is it possible to circumvent death? How strict are the laws on death? These are pretty important questions, frankly.<
So, on to the idea. I say there should be a ritual building that can be built in specific city before hand and ideally only 1 can be easily built. When the sovereign dies, the priests/wizards of this ritual building (call it what you may) spend a certain number of resources corresponding to the strength of the sovereign and they begin a lengthy ritual to recombobulate the sovereign. During the time the sovereign is gone, his empire may s
Stardock has come with a solution that is simple (to implement and to understand) and that doesn't use a RNG, I hope it will be good for most people.
Yes it's a fair solution. Not a cool solution, but a fair one. Obviously there's more reasons to go the way they are going then they are letting on, for some mechanic they haven't revealed yet, and I'm fine with that. A dungeon... or a temple.
Donkeys as early game mounts... that would be hilarious.
Sovereign Handling People do not want luck to decide the fate of their sovereign in a battle. Many people don’t like the idea of ones sovereign dying meaning the end of the game. The sovereign being a unit in the game is key to the game mechanics that will become more apparent later. But we have been convinced by the feedback that there shouldn’t be an “evade” ability. Instead, we’re now leaning towards if your sover
But if he dies only in a combat against another channeler?
That would be interesting way to do it. It definitely forces a player to use their sovereign in an interesting way... although if this is a late game thing the channeler who hoarded all their magic has a serious advantage in this department. Allow mundane forces to weaken said channeler before the other channeler comes in for the kill.
non-negotiable.
Well, I didn't say that the sovereign shouldn't die. I just think there's a much more creative and fun way to handle it.
I think everyone is concentrating way too much on gritty gameplay and not enough on awesomeness and fantasy. Frankly, if an epicly powerful being dies, of course there is a way to resurrect them. What slain sorcerer or demon or whatnot doesn't threaten the world beyond the grave? A pathetic one. The idea of a sovereign dying = end of game simply goes against a lot of high fantasy I've read. Even Gandalf "died" after his encounter with the Balrog and was given new lif
Fallout 3 is fun. I played Company of Heroes demo and it was fun, if a little too fast-paced for me.
The idea sounds great by the way. Yeah, the search utility kinda sucks. Typing in "Shadow" will bring up STALKER, but not "S.T.A.L.K.E.R". I had a hard time bring up search since they've changed Impulse. It'd be nice to have a more accessible and robust search engine, although for me the catalogue works just fine.
"C" seems like the most sensible solution.
I figured it out. I was right clicking on the quickstart icon to set preferences, when I actually needed to go into impulse click on the doohicky in the top left corner. So it was my fault. Thanks anyway!
