Dear Hydrohuman, I find the best way to build interest in a mod is to just start building one no matter your skills. I suggest learning Python, learning to make some basic 3d models, try to do some easy reskinning, etc. Do go through plenty of tutorials. I learned how to use Blender so I could make models, and I produced art for my mod. Not good art, but just good enough to illustrate some concepts. If you just start doing basic things: makes some "bending" spells, make some Avatar th

The thing I don't get is why there is still a correlation between Video Games and Violence in our society. It's not video games making our children violent, it's our CULTURE ITS-SELF. Video games have been around since the late 70's and early 80's. Today's generation of adults are the first generation that grew up with having video games as a main

It's a fun series although I think the last one, Sims 3, missed the mark on some level. It just didn't click with me. Yeah the clothes don't sound great, and if its like SIms 3, they'll give you a barebone warddrobe and then try to charge you 10 bucks for more in the online store. I am not really digging the potential short-t
Hehe, that's good stuff. I never met with a girl, who liked computer games.
I actually meet a whole lot of girls that like computer games. I dunno... I've never been particularly attracted to girls because they play games, and no girl I've had a relationship with has ever been much of a gamer. Still, I always wanted a nerd girlfriend, but instead I get a lot of attractive cool types, which I still find vaguely surprising
Awesome story, but... It's "breakthrough", not "breakthru".
I'd rather have "decisions" ala Europa Universalis, honestly. I don't really want to lose because of a text adventure.
The 2003 bush invasion was tasteless. I just find hypocritical that the same people that supported this now unpopular war are now bitching about some game with make-believe guns and make-believe soldiers and insurgents. Wars are ok IRL but not on a console or pc? That's tasteless. And this is a moot point anyways, since we're talking about a game that will try to compete with the arcadey shooters out there. Actual realistic ti
I really only want to play SC 2 to see what happens to Jim Raynor.
As painful as it is for me to say this, you've actually brought me around to your position to some degree. You've explained something I had not considered previously, namely that the game will likely devolve into yet another kill-the-hajjis fragfest, albeit one where you can participate from the perspective of the hajjis being killed. I would find that rather objectionable, although as a hard-line first-amendment-er I would find it difficult to do

Of course, there's the fact that a lot of movies are based on the wars, but apparently some people see a difference there.
I don't see much of a difference, movies and TV shows can also be pretty tasteless. But the fact is watching a movie that shows the horrors of Darfur is going to be quite different from playing an FPS game where you can choose either the genoci
Wow, a lot of Paradox hate! I found Victoria I (and HOI 3) to be absolutely impenetrable, so making it "accessible" is not a problem for me. For that matter, the only Paradox game that I can get into is EU3. The bugs you are talking about do worry me though, and in some AARs I've read the countries aren't very faithful to the real-world counterparts in some cases (i.e. a lot of "Canadian Nationalist" revolts, AI USA doesn't reach West Coast very well, Britain is much more unstable than it was
I might well be the minority here, but I think it's absolutely tasteless to have an FPS game set really in a ongoing conflict, especially in essentially a multiplayer frag-fest. I think it's different if you're a franchise like SP:MBT where you can handle those sort of conflicts with a measure of realism and sensitivity, but playing Taliban and gunning down coalition troops is just a little much for me. I'd like to also point out t
That would be cool. You'd need particularly large tactical maps. Or some kind of point-buy system.

So I've been playing the Victoria 2 demo and I've been enjoying it immensely, as someone who never really "got" the original game. For those that don't know, Victoria 2 is a Grand Strategy Game like HOI or Europa Universalis. Where Europa Universalis is more focused on discovery and exploration, HOI more on warfare, Victoria 2 is more about domestic politics and economics. I know to many people that sounds boring, but honestly I think domestic politicking and economics is a very under

And it is reasonable they don't release content, since they have to cram as much as they can in the box for those without internet. Oh and we're closer to rele
If this is good enough I might actually plug it into my own mods. I have a few concerns though: A) How will these skills translate into the later game? For example, what will "herbalism" grant you when you have 10 huge cities? B ) Could you not hire followers to do some tasks for you? C) What about diplomacy in the RPG stage? Couldn't you just run after and murder the other sovereigns? Anyways, the "random tech tree" looks interesting. I'll be interested to see
