I believe the region check is only done in the store. Once you buy something you can download it from anywhere. That said, I do believe that once you move, you won't be able to buy NA-only games.

Only the first article says that. The second article says it's happening "world wide". When I first heard about it on the radio last night while I was picking my wife up from work it was on a local Orlando station. According to them it's starting to pop up here

Well, Duke 3d was one of the best FPS games of its time. :P
That's why I really don't like services like Impulse. They give developers an excuse to put out a "unfinished product" because they can just patch it up any time they want. That's also why I get a twinge every time Frogboy says "It will never be Finished".
Or, you know, it allows the developers to skirt around all the manufacturing/shipping delays that forces them to have your definition of a "finished" game several weeks before it needs to be a "finished" game (r
I would not expect an early day0 version. It's quite likely that they'll want to take all the time they have until release to get a good update out, so I'd be surprised if there was a "final day0" release version ready to go next week :P
This one is better.

You will be able to update directly, but unless you're on a really bad connection it's always beneficial to just do a clean install to get rid of any garbage/unused files that might end up causing issues.
The boxes are shipped with USPS Priority mail, so it shouldn't take very long to get. They might send out the boxes before street date, but I wouldn't expect to get it a few days after the 24th, in any case.
I'd mostly agree with kyogre. The bulk of the beta should be what it was. But, given the scope of a game like Elemental, I do think it would be beneficial to give the testers about a month of a non-changing game, so we can play the hell out of it and comment on issues we really couldn't (pacing in late game huge maps, etc). The content here should be final or near-final, so we can get an accurate representation of the game. It's great to get the mechanics functionality down through th
Generally speaking it's always "safest" to do a complete fresh install. However, in majority of cases you can just let it patch you. It's more likely that tons of files will be added rather than removed in the distribution, so the potential for problems is smaller since you probably won't have old files doing something funky.
For what it's worth, Elemental has sufficient pre-orders such that it'll break even on August 24th.
That's actually pretty damn cool, if I may say so. You guys have never really commented on preorder numbers, so it's nice to have a ballpark figure like this :)
I wonder if the other number also includes marketing and the servers that were put up for multiplayer?
No idea. But I think it's pretty safe to say that Elemental's budget is much, much lower than Civ 5's so it needs to sell much fewer copies to make a good ROI, which is really the only thing that matters as far as SD being supported financially. More is always better of course, but Civ has been an established franchise for many years. Just like Starcraft, people will b
Ahha, found it!
$5 million? I would love to have that kind of money to do a game. Elemental's budget is about half that and that includes the cost of developing its custom 3D engine.
https://forums.elementalgame.com/389038/page/2/#replies reply #47. So let's say 2.5 million, including development of the engine from scratch (which AFAIK began before Elemental was a
Stupid WSJ won't show the full article.. but I was sure Frogboy debunked that in one more recent thread when someone was commenting and he answered that he wished he had that much money to make a game.
Elemental will tank
"Tank" is higly situational and non-descriptive. Number of copies sold is less important than return on investment. Civ 5 *needs* to sell a crapton of copies because a ton of money was spent on the game. Elemental cost what.. 1 million? 1.2? Something along those lines, I think. Comparatively, it needs to sell many fewer copies in order to generate a great return on investment and end up generating good business.
Anytime :)
To be fair, it sounds like it's a reporting format, not a "telescope input format". If there's some rule that requires all telescopes to conform to the same date format then you have a case, otherwise you're basically complaining about software presumably made in the US that uses the standard US date format. It may be annoying, but chances are the guys who write it aren't actually astronomers :P
Holding down the middle mouse (typically pressing down on the scroll wheel if you have one) and moving the mouse rotates it. If it doesn't, make sure in your mouse config app the scroll wheel is set to Mouse 3 or Middle, however they label it.
Yes, that was determined more than half a thread ago :P
The thing is, Stardock's approach to development and post-release support is such that even if the game is clearly lacking something at release, it's pretty much guaranteed to come in updates and expansions. A lot of companies push out a game and maybe a patch or two with bug fixes, and then leave it. Certainly if the reviewers find the game to be lacking it would suck, but, SD would still make the game better as time goes on. I imagine a lot of people aren't really used to this appro
