Stardock - KEEP releasing games early, AS LONG AS YOU WORK HARD TO SUPPORT THEM AFTER RELEASE, we all win that way!!!!!!
I wouldn't encourage this at all. And I'm in the camp of players who like the game. Obviously they should work hard to support the games after release, but the aim should be to release as complete a game as possible, not to get it out quickly. Besides, Elemental wasn't released "early". It was released when it had to be released. It's not like

That smiley totally matches your avatar, searro.
Stardock never charges for updates. There will be expansion packs (2 are currently planned). I think the "free update" thing is mostly attempting to play on the fact that a lot of games that are put out either barely get any updates, or bundle all the updates with an expansion (such that if you want fixes to the original game, you have to buy the expansion). Whoever worded that email was probably pretty tired :P
I'm sure the details will be in the patch notes :) Or else..
If horses are an "item" (I never found a horse resource, yet...)
Horses are indeed an item you assign to the unit on the design screen.
One time in beta cities had no building limits. But the overwhelming majority of testers didn't like being able to build everything in every city, instead wanting more specialized cities so you'd have to pick and choose a bit what to build because space is limited.
Penalties from wearing armor too heavy like combat speed would make a lot of sense.
This already exists. If you research up to plate armor, each piece has a combat speed penalty. The same exists on a lot of heavy weapons, which do higher damage but decrease the number of attacks you can make.
It's.. so-so :P The XMLs reference everything by file name or values. If you wanted to change eye texture, for example, there's an entry for that but you have to go into the game folder that contains the images, find one you like, and give the XML the file name of that texture. It's not quite as easy as just picking an eye like on Sovereign creation, but everything can do with that Sov creation tool you can do with the XML. Here's an example NPC (this one isn't recruitable, but to giv
There is no per-unit stat for mana regen. There's a global mana regen per race that can be modified (but I don't know if it can be modified by an item), and there's a per-unit stat for tactical combat mana regen. You should be able to make an item that increases tactical mana regen, but you can't increase a single unit's mana regen on the strategic map. There is a mana regen stat in the CoreUnitStats.xml, but it's commented out and not hooked up in the engine. Even if you uncomment it
Icecrown, very nice work again on the water effects :)
It's possible, but there's no workshop tool for it. Just XML file editing. Same goes for creatures/monsters :)
I think it has something to do with the delays in sending the boxed version to those who ordered it, the download version is just more accessible ATM.
That and the fact that the DD version was available earlier than stores got their boxes. In some cases, the pirate groups manage to get ahold of retail disks before street date (swiped from factory floor, or access to retail store stock, etc), but in most cases they grab whatever is available first.
There is an if, in the strictest sense. We're talking about the DRM principle here. Yes, the game on the disk is.. bad, to say the least. But if it does start without an activation, then there is no DRM. Obviously to get any mileage out of Elemental specifically people will need to patch the disk version, but that's not because of any DRM scheme, rather because the version that got put on the disk ended up being pretty crappy - and that's certainly not intentional.
I'll jump on IRC to keep the updates flowing
Oh sure, be on IRC while I'm at work why don't you :( :D Good luck with getting the issues resolved!
I think for the most part it's "How quickly we can get a substantial amount of fixes in an update and test it" :P The patches have to get QA'd, uploaded to the CDN, etc, so it doesn't make sense to push a patch for each little thing. Once they nail down a few major issues, they put out a patch. I would expect weekly/bi-weekly patches for a bit, then calming down as most of the "major" issues are resolved.
Moreover, CD version HAS to be activated too.
If you want updates, yes. Are you saying when you installed from the disk it forced you to activate and would not run the game without?
A lot of people seem to be confused on Stardock and DRM. Stardock releases games in two formats: on-disk, and digital. The DISK version of the game has absolutely no DRM and no copy protection. There's no disk check, no serial entering on installation, no nothing. You can make an image of the disk, load it up with Daemon Tools or any other virtual-drive software, install from it, and play without needing any crack, internet auth, or anything of the like. The DIGITAL version, d
Let me stress again that to the best of my knowledge elemental does not contain CD checks
Yes, Elemental does not do a disk check. I got my LE box, and it's unopened and I'm playing Elemental just fine. The whole "I must crack the executable because I want to keep the box in mint condition" thing does not apply to Elemental, given the lack of disk check. Fun fact: The pirated Skidrow version is based on the Digital Download of the game, thus it does require a cr
We don't really need more forums. What we need is the finalized ingame Mod Library (meaning, being able to submit mods and get them approved) ;) The forums can stay for help/discussion/WIP, and you'd always be able to find release mods through the library, then go to the forums and find the thread with its name.
Obviously the best way to ensure mankind's legacy, other than leaving lots of plastic around, is to shoot a lot of boxes with earthly goodies and hello messages in all directions of space.
I'd like to know if calculated variables can be interchanged with integers anywhere. For example, when creating a creature during a quest for the player to fight, there's a specified field for the creature's level: Darkling 1
Make a better one :)
Attacker rolls a number between 0 and their attack rating. Defender rolls a number between 0 and their defense rating. Damage done is attacker's number minus defender's number. If the result is less than 1, the game considers it a miss. So, if the attacker with attack rating of 24 rolls a 3, and the defender with defend rating of 5 rolls a 4, the attack misses. At least that's what i figured out till now.
Yep. There's
They didn't all ship on the same day, some people were saying theirs shipped on the 26th. In the US, it shouldn't take over 3-4 days (the USPS site claims 2-3 for Priority). Overseas though, don't worry yet. Overseas orders are also shipped USPS International, and they're not as fast as in the US :( If you send an email to , they will be able to confirm if it shipped and probably when. Note though that USPS doesn't do shipment
