I had a big surplus of metal with Resoln, they don't have many ways to use this up unfortunately. I didnt train lots of spiders either (probably 14 throughout the entire game till it bugged on me) - I just looked on them as maintenance free garrisons that cost the price of a summon (in mana) - they werent central to my strategy (they work well with ranged troops though). I liked the Cyndrum demons if you could get them to 9 - but really I think the big strength of Resoln is their death ma

The Pariden outpost spell is definitely very useful but I don't consider it overpowered - it costs 30 mana, which is a big deal in the early game. Tarth's superscouts ability is balanced by the fact they don't get much else - also their over-reliance on bows can be shut down through air magic and carefully selecting traits and equipment for your troops. I've played Magnar in the last beta and I really like the slaves - even if they are weak, you can spam them like craz

I like alot of the ideas that Stardock are coming up with for the factions - I think Tarth, Altar, and Pariden need more fleshing out but you can see indicators for where they're going - I definitely like the empire races more just because they seem more interesting (although I like what they have done with Gilden). I've started my first game on this current Beta with Resoln as they're probably my favourite and I was interested in the binding ability creatur

Hi Simon I had the same problem but like Stratner said, you can fix it by selecting your graphics card via the start menu (or the icons in the bottom right corner) - I have an Nvidia card and it was easy to find due to the logo in the icon. Once you have found and clicked on it you will have a range of options - I solved it by going to advanced settings and adding the elemental programme as something that uses my Nvidia card as opposed to the integrated one - previously it was mapped to globa

I agree with Heavenfall here; if you raise taxes even a little then you get disproportionate penalties to research and production and relatively little gildar. This means I avoid raising taxes for ages until I have a few gallows and prisons set up to reduce unrest. Maybe thats the intended dynamic (i.e. you make taxes really unattractive for factions without the proper infrastructure) but it feels very punishing to me, especially if you capture an enemy city because then you hav

Hi Kalin, I wasnt aware of the pop boost from wildings - that's good to know. I'd still like to see some more stuff done with wildings and darklings to help them scale up. If all the branches are supposed to represent different paths to victory then the monster allies for civics need to be stronger as the military and magic paths have much more aggressive capabilities. If anything, the latest beta has made civics even weaker as an independent path as it no longer provides any weapons

Yeah this happened to me too, 2 stacks attacking the same city froze the end turn button - it sucks when it happens. I think the issue is that the game wants to resolve an attack but it can't so it gets stuck in a loop - although I'm not an IT techy I wonder if it's came up in Stardock's own testing? I would have thought they have encountered it too - but I posted it anyway

Yeah darklings, wildlings, and mercenaries are all incredibly weak as they stand - though at least they are very cheap and they don't cost maintenance (I think) but they don't scale up with trained armies at all which is a shame - I reckon these guys could be developed further so that they are appealing - I'll give it some thought and post some suggestions Also: Kael just posted about Resoln getting bound spiders as units, which is good news -

OK I've been playing some serious HOMM6 over the past 2 weeks; sometimes whole days [e digicons]o_O[/e] I could definitely have done something more constructive with my time but never mind. One of the things I really like about that game (and HOMM3, which I used to play, and it remains a classic game that's aged very well) is the wide variety of creatures that each army has and all of their varied abilities - this got me thinking about FE. By and large the a

The 90% discount on sold items feels pretty harsh to me but at the same time I understand why Stardock made the change (to make gold more scarce). I suggest that the selling prices start out at this discount but then trading and economics both improve the shop buying and selling prices e.g. trading makes selling at 20% value (as opposed to 10%) and you get a 20% purchase discount from the store. Economics would increase the bonus further to 30% value for selling goods and 40% discount

I like the tougher monsters - I'd actually like options to ramp em up more ('super dense' and 'hyper aggressive' on the worldbuilder) but I'm not sure how well the AI opponents would handle that. One of the things I liked most from FFH2 was the early game survival against the odds scenario - of course you could also really tone down monsters if you were scared too. Monsters are better in this Beta and I've not ran into any early game blitzes from em y

Hi Stardockians just reporting a bug where if a city is attacked twice by the AI the 2nd attack doesnt happen but you can no longer carry out any more attacks and can no longer end the turn - it basically forces you to exit the game completely and load up the save. It actually breaks the game when you're being attacked by a horde of troops because you're pretty much guaranteed to get attacked twice and each time this happens you have to restart [e digicons

Reply to AI Difficulty in FE Beta

I'm finding the game easy too, even on the hardest setting - maybe the AI should get bigger bonuses? I personally hate it when the AI gets bonuses in these games but maybe thats whats needed to raise the challenge level, I don't know TBH Maybe it's that the AI isnt fully utilising it's sovereigns; they have been nerfed twice now but with careful development they can become one man powerhouses - I never see the AI level it's champs to the extent that I do and that m

OK been playing ridiculous setting and the AI puts up a much bigger fight as they are able to pretty much ignore maintenance costs they are also keen to attack and I noticed some nice multi-pronged attacks and bypassing well defended cities for weaker cities, that was all good to see. The AI also makes a crapload of mages too which is pretty effective as they bypass armour, although cloak of nature plus one of the elemental rings works well against this strategy. The AI did appe

OK I finished playing a full game on challenging (with Magnar) yesterday as I consider this to be the standard difficulty setting for someone who isnt a noob but desires a challenge - it's still a cakewalk although I saw some promising developments with the AI both tactically and strategically. Strategically, I noticed the AI made sure it had large garrisons for it's cities and it used a mix of strong units (e.g. spearmaiden) bulked out with cheaper units (more cost effective) an

Brad I like what I see with the AI, kudos to you. It's pretty late here so I'm just going to make a quick comment. I notice in your vids that you usually take the approach of building 2 pioneers plus scouts before you develop cities - whereas I tend to build the tower of dominion plus the science building as early as possible and I'm quite happy to solo it with my sov for a long time. In a crowded map I can see why you take that approach (grab l

DS Raider and all, I hear what you guys are saying with regard to economic/empire management and in an ideal world I'd like to see this area developed further too but I've basically curbed my expectations in this area and accepted it at face value - I see this as a game where you wander around with little warbands and the cities basically represent control nodes that you need to capture to win - expansion has almost no downsides but you will need to fight monsters or AI opponent

Hi Ausland, you know the champs have already been toned down once right? Do you really want them toned down further? I have only had limited experience eith beta 3 but it seems the AI sovs have got better at the exploring and goodie hut side of things so that should help to even things out a bit Havent been able to play a whole game yet so I havent been able to really assess the AI - I plan to have a proper crack at it after next week Just out of curi

wow had to go to pg 3 to find this thread again BUMP! Hi feelotraveller, sorry to hear you're having the same glitch, kind of sucks doesnt it? As far as I know, I have the latest version of the beta and my graphics card works fine - it displays all kinds of other games well - those portraits should display properly I think - except, they don't - so please stardock arts/graphics dudes can you take a look at this and adapt it so that we can all enjoy the pretty por

I voted good, which is up from my previous vote on the last beta - I've only played about 6 hours so far, but I like the changes; the factions have more character and the game seems to be pacier now - I havent been able to really assess the development in the AI, thats going to take a few more games but from my limited play time it feels harder anyway. The tweaks to tactical combat are big improvements IMO - you guys have done a whole range of balance tweaks here and it shows. Wel

Hi Stardockians, cheers for releasing the new beta - I've been able to squeeze in about 90 mins on it (will be able to do a proper session after next week) - just emailing to point out a display issue for both the choose soveriegn screen and the display in the equip champ screen - the portraits are completely blank - it's weird because all the other character portraits (e.g. design unit) work fine. My laptop is pretty new and it displays everything else well so I'm confuse

Hi guys, just throwing this out there to the community - have there been any announcements that Stardock is planning to make a Gal Civ 3? I did a quick web search and IGN stated that Stardock is making it but it's in a very early development stage - if so, that one totally passed me by. Can anyone provide a link to any official announcement by Stardock? I'd be particularly interested in anything that hints at an estimated release date - I'm guessing that something like t
