* Start off small and scale big (either through expansions, product patches/enhancements, or training scenarios)
Which is the definition of feature creep. [e digicons]:omg:[/e] It's much better to plan for features from the beginning (when possible) to integrate them in the best way then trying to add them on top of an allready existing system.
My general impressions and read throughs of previews give me the idea that it is like MoM, but I don't find MoM all that different from the HoMM series.
Well, here I have to disagree. HoMM and MoM are very different games altogether. HoMM is very hero focused while in MoM they're just an addition. Heroes in HoMM are your basis for an army (they confer large bonuses to units under them and are thus a necessity) while they don't do much for an army in MoM

Alway, the post that you're replying to is spam. I would have reported it if the report button wouldn't be broken for me (and I don't know where the forum-problem forum is).

Yeah, it all depends on how StarDock will do those spells. You could groups spells into a missile category (fireballs, frostbolts), a direct damage category etc. and base counters around those categories. Or if spells are leveled like in D&D you could base counters on their level. Or on their mana cost. On their school, etc. Possibilities are endless I guess, but the inclusion of a method to counter enemy spell casting is imho something we could agree on, then. :)<

If not, I can see why, since your armies are going to be huge, and not your standard party of 4-6 companions. If so, won't battling tiny groups of wild creatures get redundant with such a huge army?
That would be the case with your usual animals. But in Elemental y
Why not just use the "all techs available" option when you start though?
Because teching up is half the fun. :) What I would like is a system like this for a semi campaign mode. Let's say you start on a small map with up to four expansions possible. Thus tech and spell research is restricted to a fourth of everything before the first expansion. After each map expansion, another fourth of all technology and spells becomes available for research. En
For example, in big battles with strong spell-casting heroes in HoMM, it always feels like each hero flinging spells at the other side with the occasion buff/debuff, until one side runs out of units or mana. The only real "magic vs. magic" is in dispelling. Basically HoMM uses magic as a tool that functions on the same level as units. In Elemental, in battles where both sides are using magic, I want the magic to directly strive against each other. I'd like it to work like this with wor
