The core of the problem is that generals are balanced under the assumption that their minions are worth more than dog shit.
Minions are stronger than people think. I've had people ignore them (or confuse them with grunts) and subsequently get half their hitpoints knocked off before they even got into combat with an actual Demigod. The mistake General players seem to make is to keep their minions with them at all times - split up

If you do plan of playing HW2 you should also grab the HW2 graphical update mod - again, purely cosmetic, but it introduces parallax mapping and per-pixel lighting. It's state of the art.

Warcraft 3 was the same- amazing graphics for its time.
Neither of those things are true - they have a cohesive art style (less so for Warcraft 3), however technically, they were underpowered even at the time of their release.

You should never skip Homeworld - if anything, you should look for that first and if necessary skip the other ones. If you do manage to grab Homeworld, download the mod that removes lodding. It's purely graphical, and a modern computer can easily handle no-lod HW.

To be fair - it's their fault people have the wrong expectation. They kept saying how Generals would play like an RTS up to a few weeks ago - long after it was clear they never would. In fact, I don't think they've even cleared that up officially yet.

I love how people see "SC2" in a post and immediately assume the person is making a comparison and throw out the standard "BUT THEY'RE NOT THE SAME AND YOU CAN'T COMPARE THEM!" response.
Good job missing the point - even if the comparison was valid despite the genre difference (hint: it isn't), there'd still be no point of comparing them. There is no way SC2 will <st

You're comparing General skills with Assassin skills and want them to be equally powerful. That's not gonna work. Erebus is actually incredible when played right - I've yet to loose against the supposedly overpowered Regulus for example. Edit: And on Bite - a good Bite means a demigod kill. Buffing it would make Erebus the most overpowered Demigod yet.
Hmmm had a match vs an Erebus using all his night walkers and idols. They actually hurt quite a bit...Will have to try in a more viable match.
It's a long shot, but could that have been me? Erebus idol build is fantastic when you play it more like a strategy game and less like an RPG (use your minions seperately from your demigod, heal friendly demigods with priests, get those +minion regen items). Incidentally also butchered a triple-Regulus team in my second g

You're switching the x in an equation to a certain, known value - that is literally the definition of decreasing the variables.

I don't remember Conquered Kingdoms, but I do remember Seven Kingdoms - which was basically a real-time 4x Fantasy game. Kind of a Sins of a Solar Empire but in a Fantasy setting. It was hard as all hell, but really fun once you got the hang of it.

Steam doesn't force you to be online. It did when it was in it's intial phase, but by now that's long gone.

If you don't like X-Box Live, go get a Playstation with PSN or something. A PC has no OS provided game center, so there should be choice. Even Microsoft didn't make their service a hassle, GFW Live is nice, and stays out of the way. Sure it's not as good as X-Box Live yet, but it's doing quite well. At least it onl
Steam is where it is because they forced people to use it in the beginning. Steam provided no added benefit to Counterstrike players.
Yes, Steam got it's first "customers" by forcing them to go to Steam. No, Steam did not provide "no added benefit". Infact, one of the reasons cited for the CS change was being able to implement a more functional anti-cheat tool (VAC). Cheating was one of the most rampant problems for CS and the Steam switch all but completely fixed it.</

That'd be the second continent - the first one is basically a tutorial/level up your guys zone against a General that "Sauron" wants to get rid of anyway. Second Continent means you're fighting someone actually competent - equating to being completely outclassed both in quality and quantity of troops. While having the worse tactical position on the field. God I love Fantasy General. [e digicons][/e] PS.: for the people picking it up now, and having a hard time - try pla

Stardock games don't ship with DRM so don't force users to use Impulse. But those bastards at Stardock make you use Impulse to download free updates. The scum. Why can't they be like those heroes at Valve they put DRM on their games at retail and force me to use their clunky D

Fantasy Wars is a great title but the Orc campaign is punishingly hard at the end. Could have used a tad more balancing. The "turn-limit" in that game is the developers' way of gauging difficulty level. Try
