I hate ABBA. Doesn't mean they are not successful. Also doesn't mean that most people don't like them. All it means is that I don't like them.

Instead it'll analyzed the files on your hard drive comparing them to the files on the server, and then download only those files that are missing/different. Of course this "Preparing to download..." process can be quite lengthy, but the actual download time is usually very sh
Interesting post. Just one query, how does limiting a building to one per city reduce ICS? Seems to me that it would actually make you want more cities, not less.
And again all of your reply is opinion You have no idea how much it cost, or how many sales worldwide there have been. You don't know whether they have alienated a significant amount of core fans (especially in relation to how many new fans they got). In fact surely by appealling to the casual gamer they have in fact opened up their market? You don't know that many others won't buy the DLC, you only know that you won't and some people who post on forums. And your last
I never said i agreed with them, I am just saying that those are the facts. Therefore you cannot argue that CIV5 was and still is a commercial success. Just because some people don't like the game doesn't stop this from being true. And as for 'big game reviews', don't you find it strange that people only like reviews when they agree with them? Wouldn't it also be easy to argue that people are far more likely to submit a review themselves when they disagree with the critics reviews, which is w
Which game was that?
One of (if not) the best selling games on the PC of 2010? The same game that received 90% plus on the over-whelming majority of reviews from the critics. The same game that is still riding high in the charts on Steam and still one of the top played games on Steam. As I have said use facts, not opinions.
I am beginning to feel that hiring Jon was a bad thing. Not because of CIV 5 (I actually quite enjoyed it, and will go back to enjoying it when i have the time). But because it seems that the forums of Elemental are now full of the sort of people that the 2k forums were full of. Maybe one day we'll all understand the opinion is not fact, no matter how strong that opinion is. 'Jon Shafer was in charge of a team that made bad design decisions' is an opinion not a fact. 'Jon Shaf
A hex grid is totally possible with squares. It is just a normal grid with column of squares offset from the previous column so that the edges of the squares line up with the middle of the adjancent square, rather than the edge. Probably not explained well, but hey-ho. Shows that an opinion can be wrong though...
Welcome aboard btw did anyone hear that John Lennon got shot?
Personally I feel that even if you didn't like Civ5 (And i did like it) you couldn't deny that the new direction it took was both innovative and brave. Ironically it is not the new things that disgruntled people, but what was left out to make room for them. Therefore If Jon can come into Elemental and offer new and brave ideas on how to take the game forward, combined with a team of people that want the game to remain true to its core we are all onto a winner. Given that a lot of talk
On succession: Would it be possible for a faction to lose the ability to win if their sovereign dies but continue on. They could become for intents and purposes a minor faction. One that doesn't expand etc. but under the leadership if the next in line. Obviously this wouldn't work from the players perspective, but for the npc faction it would get rid of the annoying 'fart in the wind' disappearance.
I think this idea fundamentally clashes with the spirit of a wilderness. I am not saying that the adventure techs are out of the question for spawing resources in better unison with the land, but if you want to drastically change the economy of the game, you need to think about making a mod.
This Anything that changes E:WoM into another generic 4x game is a bad thing in my opinion. There are a fe
The obvious answer would be to have buildings available to higher level cities allow you to build on more tiles. The town hall and palace for example, it could be said that these help with the bureacracy needed to run a larger city.
I am with Heavenfall. Whilst this idea is a good idea on its own merit, i am not sure this is the direction I'd want E:WoM to take. It would take some of the originality out of the game and push it towards being more like Civ etc. I do wish the City Tile Limit was relaxed, or at least easily mod-able. (maybe it is I suck at Modding). But I really don't want any more encouragement to city spam than there already is. Also I am not sure it is in keeping with the setting and fluff. This i
So many of the Impulse deals aren't available in the UK it is just silly. I would guess that at least 50% of the offers aren't.
I am UK, so no update until tonight either. And this is a proper full working release, not a Beta.
It is mostly awesome stuff for the early game, good armour, longswords etc. This was on 1.09o-w (i think) not played 1.1 yet. I am think I saw a different one in there, but can't remember for sure. Lord Xia might be right though, could be that the Orekeepers are the only one.
I love going on shopping trips to minor factions. They seem to have some awesome stuff. If i get the chance i try to enclose them in my ZOC just to stop my opponents from ganking them.
The main issue i have with the magic system is not the 'War of Magic' part, but the 'Elemental' part. It seems that the spells represented in the elemental books are usually less useful than their ordinary counterparts. The Water book is almost empty. At the moment I think most players try to get the fire book but don't really look at the others.
You want good lore? Look no futher than SMAC. That was probably the last 4x game to truly manage to seamlessly mix a sandbox game with a story.
I am not sure if you understand the point i am getting at. Lets address your points seperately. 1/ Turns time; At the moment the seasonal turn time fits well with every aspect of the game except map movement. To change the turn timing would make every aspect of the game not quite work.. including map movement. Let's be honest you would probably have to reduce the turns to days to actually get the map movement right. 2/ Cities should only take up o
Yes Civilization spans 1000's of years. Elemental spans decades, rather than a 4 year period. The things you are asking for change the fundamental foundations of what makes Elemental unique. If these are aspects you don't like then, as i said, this probably isn't the game for you. There are many of Empire/War games that you will find right up your street.
Cool. I can stop restarting games soon then ;)
I still think it's a bigger, more glaring issue that it takes years to travel a short distance than it would be to be able to build a small city in "only" two years.
I think you are playing the wrong sort of game if this bothers you. It is the same in every other game of this type. Hell, in the Civ games it can take several 100 years to make a two square journey. As has been said, changing to weeks would destroy sev
