I'd get it from Steam. It works on win 7 just fine. The user created patch is here, you really need it to fully enjoy the game: http://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/4647

I decided to buy. Been playing it a lot. There's a learning curve that's steep(not as steep as Crusader Kings II), but its more of a step by step learning experience. One town fails, I figure out why, start a new town and repeat this until I have finally a stable town. My main fault was growing too fast which I find a slight negative for the game, you have to be patient which is rarely a plus for me in an RTS game. I'm not talking ACTION PACT, but just waiting a few years to do an

The best RPG I've ever played, and its first person, is Vampire:Bloodlines. When it came out it was quite buggy and so failed financially. Years later there's a user created patch that fixes a lot. Its a brilliant game, lots of replayability. It has 'puzzles', but you can go about doing them in different ways using a variety of skills from the old school World of Darkness vampire clans. Such as talking your way through a situation, going invisible and sneaking to get things, o
Call of Cthulhu>Dark Corners of Earth. Not really RPG, more of an action adventure with RPG elements, a fantastic game nevertheless. More concentrated on following the story rather than being sand-boxy with various side quests...
I disagree. Its a puzzle solving game. Essentially you have to do exactly what the section of the story calls for. And what RPG elements there are are negligible. Horror pu

I hear Master of Orion is great. But these are really the only true 4X games that i can remember playing continuously. I am not a huge star trek fan by any means, but i loved the in game features! Very simplistic in terms of use, but the game play is also very in de

1. MoM 2.Birth of the Federation(with player created patch) 3.Civ 4 4.SMAC though I never got to play alien crossfire, when I tried SMAC again after many years I couldn't find a version that had AC as well. All were just SMAC. 5. Here I place all that have their value, but do not go in the above slots. Moo2, Empire, GalCiv, Warlords series,

I'm 50/50 on buying this game. I've read this discussion and the reviews on steam. The main con for me is that the game is described as a lot of sitting around staring at the screen; things happen very slowly. A lot of down time for the player. Have you experienced this? Not to imply I want things to happen fast, just that I do not want to wait and wait and wait for something to happen or a reason for me to interact with the game.

From the NPR radio show On The Media(onthemedia.org) RIP Vile Rat: On September 11th, 2012, gunmen attacked two American compounds in Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans. Sean Smith, one of the four killed in the attack, was an IT manager in the real world, but online, he was Vile Rat, a hugely influential diplomat in the video game Eve Online. If you don't mind older games Birth of the Federation is a great game, though maybe not as 'free' as what you're looking for. You still explore the galaxy and all that, but are limited to the amount of stars/minor cultures. Such as from a tiny universe to a large one or from no minor cultures to many. Its also free and player patched so it works very well. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys TBS games. Also less focus on the fighting, more on the solar system and empire

Thanks for all the input, you did a goo job, at least I assume so, explaining it all. Much appreciated. I'll have to mull over if I want to buy.
@kantok. Wow, thanks, very well written description. "Time always moves along," means that the game is 'running' even when the PC is "off?" (And RL continues?) That is really a new 'feature' to me.
Yes is that what you meant? So if you're not literally at the computer all the time you'll miss some things? That time is always moving, so zombies could come, other people could steal your

I bought the preorder and from what you folks have been describing i'm already disappointed. Particularly because they got a bit over 1.8 million in pledges. You think they could make a better game with that amount of money.
I assume you are talking about the Hearthfire DLC? In the Vanilla game, you would buy a home in a town and it would be already built. If you are buying one of the homes from the DLC, it's just a plot of land and you have to build it. Building it cost resources, you can gather stone, wood and clay or just buy it from your steward. You have to make some follower a steward too. Iron is the biggy you have to obt
To my knowledge, you can buy three plots of land, in holds you couldn't buy a house, where you can build your own house in the Hearthfire DLC, in addition to the player houses from base Skyrim. I don't have any of the DLC, or patches for that matter, but I got much of my info from the Elder Scrolls Wiki, and the info you are specifically interested in can be found here.
Ty. Simple question, when you buy property do you buy a house or an empty land plot you build a building on? If so what buildings can you build? How much do they end up costing? I realize this is something more appropriate for the skyrim forum, but its so large I figured this will get noticed here. TY for any info.
