Ok three news items for you: Our KickStarter campaign to hire our artist full time has at last kicked off. Rewards are crazy good value... want a planet named after you, a cloaking device or a terraforming device? The August update <a class="bbc_url" title="External link" href="htt

Well, if you look at the video, you can see we are indeed investing in the graphics, with three of the ship models replaced so far (and a new one added) and several other changes in the past two months [e digicons]B)[/e]

"As of May 2014, I am literally exploding with excitement to tell you that players can now actually Colonize the outer planets! This feature at last brings true Sandbox play to Ascent's insane 270,000,000,000 star system galaxy, allowing players to construct and populate cities of any size. Colony claim "deeds" have a 100km radius each, and there is no hard coded limit to the number of buildings that can be constructed in a single city. Players are limited only by their imaginatio

The PC version is finally available at http://www.desura.com/games/ascent-tsg PS how did I miss the post from the man himself wishing me luck! Thanks!

Steam Greenlight page is up at last. Also, check out the epic video. A LOT has changed since I posted about it here last.

Well, I finally did it... I quit my day job and am developing my own computer game. I'm not content anymore to just watch Brad and my other heroes live out my dream :) It's in the spirit of Elite or Freelancer. Playable now - so far we've got trading, exploration, asteroid mining, wreck salvaging, gas giant harvesting, planetary farming and mining, player built starbases and research up and running. It's multiplayer and persistent/online of course! Free to play with pr

Some work on stability is good news. Elemental doesn't stay running long enough to complete a custom Sovereign for me... I can't do much testing of actual gameplay presently. cheers, Kul

Same here on the stability front. Really hoping for a Beta I can play. I hope the dev's wont be too disappointed when I can finally play again by the possible flood of feedback on the new research and economy system which I haven't been able to test yet, let alone spells or other new content ;) Cheers, Kuloth

I have *almost* this level of instability (game is basically unplayable, most attempts crash before completing turn one) with a Radeon 4870 and DX 9.0c, latest drivers etc. Right now the game itself has some very serious stability problems that were not present or not as bad in previous builds.

Yep I'm having the same problem - not always first turn but usually. The game is completely unplayable to me at the moment which is a shame because there's a lot of new stuff I haven't been able to playtest yet. I will try to post some debug data when I can :(

Ah, I'm so strongly reminded of early Brad McQuaid Vanguard posts... and I'm prepared to believe again ;) Especially since the thing which ultimately sank VG (microsoft dumping it) can't happen here. Regards, Kul PS Ultima IV style map would've been awesome. I loved that game to death - the last in the whole franchise I enjoyed.

Presumably the magic tree in the tech research is for magical "techs" like whatever crazy temple you need to build to harvest from a node, or other magical enhancements/buildings/units etc

I find I can't play for more than about 40mins without a crash at the moment. Given the demands of my job and personal committments, this reduces my ability to give meangful feedback - bigtime. I don't think there's anything unique about my crashes but I'll keep looking to try to find something that isn't reported yet. All I can say is, the economic system is starting to take shape. My expansion is limited by resources (gold) which is an improveme

Way to auto-build roads: Use the AI caravans would use to pathe from city A to B. That way if another road pre-exists, the new road will move towards it and hook up rather than run parallel. This should look pretty natural after a time, because this is exactly how medieval roads began - as cart tracks made by people passing through from A to B. Not needing to build "Worker" or "engineer" units to make roads: Excellent, I often didn't bother in MoM in the mundane

If I may, I will link in some of my old posts from the ideas forum. https://forums.elementalgame.com/337570 "Morale on the battlefield" - basically explaining how crucial morale is for realistic tactical battles, how it can tie in with the strategic game and add a whole extra dimension. Plenty of ideas on implementation, comparing and contrasting systems from other games. <a href=" https://forums.elementalg

Oh and despite being an EVE player for many years, I don't recommend it for anything other than obsessive PVP play. The PVE game is absolute garbage and the PVP *continually* intrudes on it. PVE progression is massively capped - last I checked there is STILL no real PVE content for capital ships.

Damn, thought this was a thread about ideas for a NEW MMO. I could write a book... Um, my favourite MMO to date would still have to be Vanguard. Haven't played in over a year though as Sony did their usual thing with it (absolutely nothing for years, slowly evolving it into a more boring and stereotypical game). Most freedom, best crafting, best exploration, no instancing, grown-up population, etc. All the things I'd want. Drawbacks were always the poor quality engine (much im
I for one am going to be a deviant and say that I am in favor of Option D. What is option D? Every resource has a cost in gold. If you don't have the resource available to you, you simply pay the cost for it instead. This would represent scavenging stuff from the environment/buying it from trades and/or third parties.
I like that but have it so that players have their stockpiles for sale on an open market and that's

Option C works for me, keen to playtest it and see how it flies. Are we doing different training types in unit design? Examples: Anti-cavalry, phalanx formation, long range accuracy etc? Pre-reqs can be research & specific barracks add-ons etc What about traits bestowed by buildings? Morale bonus for church, big one for cathedral etc? P.S. Go dreadknights :)

The more the merrier. You only get problems like really slow unit production due to missing resources if you allow the .1 scavenging thing to happen. Pros and cons. I'd say throw it in and we'll playtest it. I would probably prefer no resource = no unit of that type but I see pros and cons each way. I like resource scarcity having an effect on play. This was badly implemented in CIV3 because critical unit types depended on them (with no alternatives initially) and the player had only

I'm with the OP on this one. I try to read up on games before I buy them, like at least one review, but see the EA logo as a gigantic warning label, interpretable as "this game is NOT suitible for people with an IQ higher than a glass of water" I can't think of a single company/franchise/game series they've bought out and subsequently failed to completely ruin. They're like a gigantic killer slug, snatching victims and sucking the creativity and life out of them.
