That is the general feeling on the posts in the ideas forum and on the general forum. Moreover I think SD is well aware of this proclivity amongst its customers.

The short answer, It is a good marketing strategy for creating demand for your product and improving the buzz factor without promoting the hype element (that comes later).

Making the background darker will mute the contrast and we will end up with the reverse of what we see just above the copyright notice on every page. Additionally, the color of the reply bars is too harsh in my opinion. I think it should a 20% gray fill or even a 30%.
