Can't wait to play Legend of Grimrock: http://www.grimrock.net/ FE Beta 3 must be releasing that day to celebrate!
Lord Reliant
This would also require more AI work for Brad. Will each race have it's own AI, then?
There will always be bugs, no matter how good the architecture. In this case, it was a matter of synchronizing animation with the turn ending when in different threads.
That explains it. Good to know the root cause. And bugs and beta go hand-in-hand. And I also think the SD community is particularly good at finding edge cases! [e digicons]:ninja:[/e]
With the drastic differences with weapons, we'll really need the ability to swap to an alternate weapon in tactical combat.
Loved to finally hear when the next Beta is arriving. I like the concept of continuing to tweak and improve the factions/races with 3A,3B,etc. Just think- you're far enough into the game now that you can focus on content. That's got to feel great!
The current plan is 1 tile cities. But we also are aware that a lot of people like having the cities in the maP in their full glory. So before we make a radical change it's a good idea to make sure we leave no stone unturned and let those who feel one way or the other have a place to express their views.
So, what would happen to all that awesome art work? A separate build screen to show it off? Or does it get scrapped? 1
Update: Turning off all particle effects and setting the AI to normal (I was using the lowest setting, just to race through the tech tree unhindered to see what's what) made it possible to finish a game, 299 turns.
That's great, Winnihym! What kind of computer specs do you have? Turning those off would seem to imply your graphics card and CPU are limited, though it may just be bugs with your particular hardware
The dynasty system is hidden in FE and can be enabled via an edit of some sort, but currently it's not going to be resurrected. Perhaps in the future, though.
Want to add here, that sometimes I try to move along a mountain, and my units decide all of a sudden to move to THE OTHER SIDE of the mountain... just for sport... (moving some obscure path, usually the other way than I want them).
Yep. I did notice if I changed the default zoom to be closer, or I rotated the camera, that seems to help it. So it may be a pathfinding issue as well as a UI/location/box rendering issue.
[whiny voice]I thought it was supposed to be released this week. I WANT MY BETA![/whiny voice] I suppose one more week of waiting won't kill me. I just want to know about the stuff that's being improved and test it out. Still would love to see some Devs talk about their projects or a word from Derek. I think ever since the WoM 1.4 patch he's been living in a monastery, only coming out every few months. Thankfully Brad's been talking about what he's working on, whic
It makes me wonder if they get the pathfinding fixed how much better that might make the AI's pathfinding. Unless they use a separate algorithm (unlikely). Brad's all about the AI, so that combined with a confirmation pathfinding needs to be fixed should equate into an improvement in the next Beta release, I hope!
The surveys have always been a bit leading/biased. I've done surveying as part of my job, and it's not an easy task to create questions that are meaningful yet applicable. Other than demographic info, hopefully the next survey will contain more meaningful questions. For example, things like: *What does Stardock do well? *What does Stardock need to improve upon? *What applications/technology should Stardock consider expanding upon? *Which of the followin
Good info, Sean. Does the new UI look identical to what people should have from .86, or is it different from that?
The intro video was very impressive- well done, SD! Love to see some footage of what's being shown to the media, too. Plus, more details on the new combat mechanics, but I'll continue to wait (kinda) patiently.
Don't bring wisdom into this. Everyone knows you either love something completely and stand by every aspect, or you hate everything about it and nothing about it is good. They are only two options with everything. And so clearly because Brad made minor criticisms of Steam, therefore he hates it, but he also said some positive things, therefore he loves it. So, in conclusion, there must be two Brads. Transport
The damage game mechanics sure need some additional clarity/work. It's kinda a black box now and I'd love to see the info be more accessible/understandable. Having one value for this without any explanation for the factors involved and how things are calculated makes understanding/improving/working with the system very difficult. Rarely can I explain why my unit did the damage value it did or why it was so random or predict how much damage it might actually cause (despite the tooltip
But the question remains. When do we get out next version
Or at least some more info, please? Love to see the release notes for the next Beta, a schedule when it's coming out, some new features, anything from Derek, etc.
I'm encouraged that Brad keeps finding ways to optimize/tweak memory usage, threading, graphics, etc. as they're implementing new features. So, while FE is getting new features, it's also getting more refined. We'll see what happens when we get the beta this week (right?).
As always, good idea, Dex.
Make sure to submit crashes to SD, not just through the crash method but via the Support forum, too.
One caution. I have a lot of problem with icons that are different by color being color-blind. The game needs a way to differ the HUD icon in addition to color.
How about combing a color difference with a small lock icon in one of the corners of the HUD icon? Or a small X in a corner? As it stands right now, you can (in most cases) tell when something is locked, but not what it is. If you ch
Totally makes sense and an easy change that adds to usability. SD- how about it?
Well not really. In YOUR build, all kinds of crapped increased zone of control. In OUR build, nothing increases zone of control except for specific improvements.
So, the above screenshot is from .86? Or the next, unreleased beta? Or the SD-only version? From the looks of it, it's a screen from .86.
Ouch. I know they've been tweaking the starting resources, so maybe this won't happen too much.
Some interesting info, but I'd love to see the questions asked in the survey to be an even better swath of questions. It's mostly demographic info and buying trends. I'd love to see stuff about ideas/suggestions, ways to improve the existing survey, other technologies Stardock should be exploring, etc. Stardock has some pretty savvy tech users- crowd-source them and ask them though/difficult/interesting questions.
