I agree with the last comment. As for scoring, I had some guesses as to what counts and what doesn't, but I didn't know if there was some algorithm to make that determination. Let's say 1000 seasons for game length is "normal"... it doesn't help or hurt your score. If you finish in 500 does it double your score? Is it linear? Is the damage to your score increasing exponentially or linearly the further you get away from the 1000? Same with

Wow!! I'm playing on challenging. The game where I scored 10,000+ was actually on easy or novice... can't remember. I know it wasn't challenging, and I've been slowly moving up in difficulty as I play.
Surely someone has asked this question before, but I simply can't find it. I'm probably not very good using the search option on this site. When I first loaded the new FE, I got a score of 10,000 right off the bat. Since then, I have tried and tried and can't get above 9,000. I even extend my games a bit to grow my population, and I'm sure the extra time hurts me somewhat. I just wonder which dings me more--a lower population or taking too long
Totally agree. I do understand that some settlements gain benefits while being idle, but why can't "idle" just be a "produce gildar", "Produce research" and so-on type of selection? That way the settlement has something selected and can be skipped over. Thanks for the "enter" button end-of-turn function. I actually didn't realize you could do that, and it should be a bit quicker that way.
Maybe there's a setting I'm missing, but I've combed through the menus and can't seem to find it (believe me--I'm notorious for missing what's right in front of my face!). I love the "Auto Turn" feature. It saves SO many headaches. However, when you have a town that isn't building anything, you have to press the "Turn" button. It's a great way to be reminded to select something for a Town to build, but what if there's nothing left to build? I don
Thanks for the Karma! Barrynor--what you said is exactly correct. You can cast one out of tactical combat and he'll stay with you, level up--the works. And cast another one in combat to double the fun. And, of course, other casters can do the same , as well. Thus, you can *sort-of* make an army out of them, but you use a couple of turns in combat to create the second one when, if you have them, would be much better spent casting fireball or blizzard.<
Going back through the posts today I saw some very good points that I agree with... 1) It doesn't matter what abilities you choose for your sovereign are.. after you gain a few levels you can get all of the ones you missed. The *abilities* you pay for in the beginning ought to also contain selections that you CAN NOT get anywhere else. Sure--choosing spell trees wouldn't apply here, but maybe the sovereign has, I don't know, some inherant m
BTW--for those of you who have never played MoM and are curious, you can download it *for free*. The game was made public domain some time ago. Of course, you'll have to use DOS-Box to play it. Certainly not as good as a snazzy all-in-one installation, but it's actually pretty easy. If you want a hassle-free installation, pay $5 to get it at good ole' games (it still uses Dos-Box, but sets all that up for you in one simple installation package).&
BTW--not bashing Master of Orion above. It was an awesome game that completely set the tone for 4x space games (and, I feel, was mastered by Stardock!). I'm a shameless Microprose fanboy. When I was in school at North Carolina State University, I took a part-time job delivering copiers. One day I noticed I was delivering one to "Microprose"... couldn't be the same company. I had NO idea they had an office anywhere in North Carolina, the planet E
I read through most of the posts--there's some good stuff in there. I'm a HUGE MoM fan--it was a game I played when it was released (my first computer was an Apple IIe if that says anything). Simply put, it was groundbreaking. Just think Castle Wolfenstein, Wizardry, Imperium Galactum (no--Master of Orion was NOT the pioneer of 4x space games) and so-on. Someone had created a whole new type of game to play, and man--it was incredible. It was releas
First of all, I do want to say that it's pretty obvious that a lot fo work and revisions have gone into making FE. I don't know how most people feel, but customer service these days in most any industry is nonexistant. I feel this is pathetic and unforgivable, but it is what it is. For this simple reason I'm tickled that Stardock has chosen to take this on, to offer us a chance to play the beta and make suggestions to help them make this a better g
Lord Xia--perhaps that could be one of the penalties? If you are a life magic faction, then any death magic they have will not be available since you hold no death shards. You'd have to level them up and choose another path, or make them strictly a warrior.
Yup--I don't get the whole "this hero is aligned with the empire", etc. They just sit there like a knot on a log. Heck--if nothing else, make them available but more expensive to hire if they're aligned with the other side. Allow us to bribe them. Give them the ability to choose... "I will come work for you if you will give me 500 gold and the chainmail of lightning you are wearing". Or whatever.
I really want to write an overall impression fo the game but just haven't had the time. THIS is one of the biggest problems I have. Our champions are pretty-much god-like, but the enemy champions are cannon fodder. I have yet to be on the receiving end of a mass effect damage spell, and most just rush forward into melee. I don't know if any of you guys play Heroes of Might and Magic, but the latest one that I have (V--haven't purchased VI yet)
I searched for Cloud Walk because it's not working on my machine. When cast, it actually teleports some hero not within my party to the location. Is anyone else having trouble with this spell?
I'm having a horrible time completing quests. The first few times I received a quest it was obvious where I was to go. But I received a quest for the dragon's eyes, and I have no idea where I'm supposed to go. I see the icon for "quests", but it doesn't do anything when I click on it. Is it supposed to be this way?? I want to finish sme of these higher-tier quests. Thanks!
Nevermind--got it!
Silly question, I'm sure, but where do I find a log of crashes? I've had several "crash to desktop" crashes about midway through a medium game... sometimes just by hitting "end turn". BTW--LOVING this game! (Except for the crashes!).
Downloading!!!!!!
Got back in a few mins ago, and my e-mail came at 12:15 EST!!!! Counting down.... 23 hours and 3 mins.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, time has dragged a bit, but tomorrow is the day for those of us who bought the game after realease but in 2010!!! I am STOKED. A little guarded, however, by some of the crashing and similar behavior to EWOM. My main concern is I'll be playing this on a new, untested system (built it just for FE!), but I still have my old PC handy (which EWOM seemd to run just fine on) if needed. Does anyone know what time the file should be availa
I posted a topic on shards a few days ago and added some things in about this. Even if you cannot change the type of shard, still giving you some bonus on a spell based on every shard you own. Here's the post: https://forums.elementalgame.com/415609 As for the spells you mention being weak and not scalable (such as heal), you could even do something similar to, once again,
Cool video, Frogboy. Very good explanation.
So good to hear!!! I'm glad that some f these ideas have already been tossed into the mix. Do they give you "credit" for all shards you have on every spell? Like fire spells... do you at least get a little boost for other shards you control? mqpiffle--thanks for your input. Modding is something I've never tried, and I'm not sure how complicated that would be. I've done quite a bit of self-taught programming in VB (mainly to create al
Thanks! I've just always felt that something with "Magic" in the title needs to focus more on magic. Master of Magic was primarily a game of magic, so that made it easy to buff things up with shards. I just really hoped to see more of a focus on shard use making them a very sought-after object in the game, and this can be done even if someone chooses to be more of a tank in battle than a magic user. Like I said above, in shards were about the last
