Well to have a turn based game you don't need tiles. I personally don't understand that connection. I mean if I made a war game set in a 3D battlefield and said every army involved has 1 minute to move around, attack, and so on. Once this 1 minute had expired the game would pause and the end turn button would have to be pressed before the next phase started it would be turn based but with no grid. Just an example mind you.
I'm a fan of real time personally but I don't have a problem with turn based. If we have an option I'm going to lean toward more real time like Total War tactical combat.
Beta 1Z is moving along at a nice little clip but it still has a long way to go. I'm glad Stardock won't be rushing any aspect of the game.
As brought to my attention by another topic ( found here ) I believe changes should be made to prestige and population in addition to food and housing. I understand your point Tridus but I feel a significantly more meaningful system could be implemented that would both feel natural and provide greater strategic depth. The problem Vieuxchat is once you reach the max population for a city (once all your houses are full) the prestige buildings no longer serve a purpose. And even if you lose a company of troops every city has some inherent amount of prestige that will more than likely replenish the population sufficiently before you need to train more. I hadn't even thought about prestige buildings becoming useless in the current model mainly because I never really build any of them except for the palace. Pyro you definitely make a good point about prestige needing some kind of other benefit (or a change to the current system) to warrant there use. On housing however if you destroy them your cities population will decrease which I suppose wouldn't be a problem depending on what you want to build. If you just needed a research city or market

Here is my quintessential problem with the current housing / food system. In this game I built 4 farms thus giving me a total food amount of 12 (3 X 4). After playing around with varies options in the Elemental video menu I've found a way to stop my BSOD & reboot crashes. Where before I had a hard crash now the game only crashes to the desktop, a noted improvement. As far as I can tell I only get a BSOD & reboot crash when I have Elemental running in fullscreen mode. Well even after I updated my sound card drivers I still get a BOSD & restart when opening windows in the game such as the unit designer. I don't suppose there is a way to read the text from the BOSD after my computer reboots.

Odd I play at 1680X1050 and it shows up fine but I have a 8800 GT.
**Update** Had a seemingly Random Crash after the end of one turn. The only thing I had done was try to build a study for my 2nd town I believe. Debug Dump
Upon opening the unit designer I had yet another hard crash (blue screen & reboot). A dump file however wasn't created. Debug
I realize the game is still in relative infancy but I hope in or near the final version players will be able to better customize their Channeler and population. For example the hair selection is rather limited currently and I for one would like to see a wide range of hair / beard styles from a variety of cultures made available. I had queued a Lumber yard, and 2 huts in my only city and upon placing the 2nd hut the game crashed to my desktop.The game does seem a lot more stable with 0.299 however I got to 51 turns. Debug file Dump file

So the stability update will actually go live this weekend and not next week? Awesome, the 10 or so turns I get to play before a fatal error, blue screen of death, and system reboot are pretty fun.
