Honestly...and I didn't think I'd say this, but now that I think about it more, I like it. It brings a lot of strategy into the game. I'd like to be able to make my Sovereign into a Super Powerful, Unstoppable, Magical, Killing machine. If Sovereign Death = Game Over then it would be best to get your Sovereign up to the highest level you can. The tougher he is the less likely chance he'll have to die. I believe you guys

Brand new. You have to start all over building this character up all over again while your opponents still have very powerful and very experienced older sovereigns running around. Here would be the risk and challenge in losing your sovereign. This would be such a cool bala
A dice roll to determine the outcome of a battle? Fine. A dice roll to determine the outcome of the game? Not good.
Agreed completely. Note: I think that most of the players won't use their Sovereigns in battles in MP games at all. It's just way too risky. It's np in singleplayer however.
I think quality will win over quantity in the end.
Depends on the game. Example: Quality >>>> Quantity in Civ4. However, Quality = Quantity in Kohan: AG.
Okay, here's our latest thought process on the sovereign. First, let me say that the sovereign dying is a non-negotiable thing to us. It's an important core concept.
There is no problem with sovereign dying. The problem is that the game will end. It's not acceptable imho. If that is the core concept, it's real bad. I don't understand why you devs don't "exploit" the dynasty system in this case. What's the problem with successo
You can move around with the clones as well? Because I have reported a sorta similar bug a while ago, but in that case I was unable to move with the "clones".
This is a good question indeed. :)
Quality vs Quantity can't be really well balanced if there isn't such things as morale, supplies and fatigue.
Hm...so morale won't be in the game at all? [e digicons]8C[/e]
Anybody notice the digicons aren't working in this thread?
They ain't working properly atm, and not only in this thread. :D
Awesome!..and woot?! Beta 1B starts on next week! [e digicons][/e]
So today we have the Beta 1A Update. Well, but someone knows what the Initial Gameplay Skeleton includes?. It would be fine to know it in order to pay more attention to the new issues whe testing.
Eheh yeah, I've asked this already, but it's a secret info. We will figure it out today! [e digicons][/e]
I'd much rather have an option where Channelers can dei without the player losing. I never liked the idea, and feel it's unpleasant in the beta itself. The hide option just looks like a kludge to me.
Agreed.
That is a huge screen you have.
It's the natural resolution of the 30" monitors. :)
Eheh, I just reinstalled my system yesterday, because my gfx card + motherboard died in the same time. I was thinking a bit, but finally I decided to reinstall Vista x64 Ultimate again. I will install Win7 later on, when SP1 will be available for it. :D
Nice job! :)
Just a note: If the only option will be: Sovereign dies / game over for a given AI player, it will be easy to exploit the AI this way imo...or at least the human player will have a huge advantage. Just focus attack the enemy Sovereign. If he is hiding, lure him/her out. = 1 AI oppoment is screwed. I am just theorizing of course, but I am pretty sure that this method will work. We shall see, once the Beta will reach the needed version number. :) This is yet another
Personally I hope to see both strategies as being viable.
Same here. Both of these strategies should work in a balanced strategy game.
It sounds good, but it should be combined with the suggested "dynasty method" imo. [IE. If the sovereign dies, the player should be able to choose 1 of the childs of the sovereign as the new ruler.] It has been discussed in this topic: https://forums.elementalgame.com/365023
Why limit it to dual wielding? ->
I think that this is a very important gameplay element. Stardock must be careful with it, so, I think that there should be 2 options. 1. Game ends when the Sovereign dies 2. Game won't end when the Sovereign dies, and the player will be able to choose from the childs of the Sovereign, as the successor who will control the kingdom. [..or the eldest child will be the successor automatically maybe.] = All players will be happy. :)
And the game will last forever. How can you "win" ? Instead you ennemies are too dumb to marry themselves or so weak that you still have won.
Why would it last forever? This proposed system worked very well in many games. It makes no sense, if the game will end when the Sovereign dies, mainly because of the dynasty system. If the sovereign has a child, it's pretty logical that he/she will be appointed as the next ruler/
Quoting Hawawaa, reply 10 Well I can't wait for the next build to come out! Hopefully they just keep flying out fast! Beta 1a's planned for Thursday...AND I think we've just fixed the big, nasty save game bug! So that's pretty awesome.
Ohhhhh!!! So the save/load system is fixed for the next update? [Tomorrow]. Awesome news indeed! [e digicons][/e]
I'm still in the 'give sovereign death = game-over a try' camp,
I don't understand why. We gonna have a dynasty system afterall. It's pretty logical if the sovereign dies, his eldest child/some other child chosen by the player itself will be the next sovereign/ruler. I will be very pissed if it won't work like this.
Just a note: I think that the CoA shouldn't give any bonuses. It should be a "cosmetical feature" only. :)
Really? I don't really care about event movies usually, but ah well. :P
