Quoting Tormy-, reply 63 Well, it will be easy to set up some "basic", yet unique custom factions if they will go with option 2. You won't have to mod anything in that case. Sure modding is the real deal anyways, if you want to add a truly unique race/faction, but you get the picture, yea? Option 2. will be good for "casuals" who don't want to mod anything. Also option 2. means that we end up having more

Froggie...maybe it's time for a new poll in the Journals section? :) It looks like that the people are "voting" in this topic already. The question is simple: Where would you like to see the focus of development? 2 options: Eliminate the race distinctions and instead build out the Factions with more lore and artwork. Current customization of factions would remain. Expand the race distinctions and provide more assets and code to support players creating

Additional note: It would be cool if the units would get random traits when leveling up. Example: "Pool" of Traits A - The unit must be lvl5+ in order to get one of these traits: Precision Strike, Overpower, Evasion Chance to get one of those traits @ lvl up: 10% Obtainable by: Races/Factions
On a bit of a tangent, one of the biggest internal debates we have is on features. I veto any feature that the AI won't be able to effectively use. It's one of the big reasons why Galactic Civilizations doesn't have the breadth of player features of say Space Empires V. If I can't get the AI to effectively use them, then they don't go in.
Even tho I love multiplayer, I gotta say that I like this approach. :) [quo

Since I am an AoW2 - SM & Dominions fanatic, I vote for this: Expand the race distinctions and provide more assets and code to support players creating their own custom factions made up by their own custom races. ----------- Unique, diverse & well detailed races will enhance the game[play] a lot. That being said, whatever direction you devs will take, make sure that the lore itself must be decent as well. I am going to quote Den, because I abso
Quoting Tormy-, reply 8 Yes I know. Basically you are talking about a "Spore type" creature creator for Elemental. It would be awesome to have a built-in creator like that of course....but it won't happen...probably ever, but who knows. Not really a "Spore" system exactly no. But for instance if they were to incorporate what Frogboy said about "making Dragon-Men" they will include some l
My proposal is: Set a fixed number of races (~6-10) that have character all their own.
How could they add new races [not factions!] now? It would require lot of time to implement new races. [New 3d models & animations, testing and balancing etc.] I think even the Q1 2011 release date would be pushed back, if they would start to work on the new races.
E.g. I think the factions in Dominions 3 are wonderfully thought out and would love such unique and fantastically flavoured factions.
Yep, and the same is true about AoW2 - SM as well....but we won't have that kind of racial diversity in EWoM. It's against the lore. Sure we can have very different factions, but those are factions and not races.
I think it's quite possible to have fully fleshed out standard factions with deep lore, like has been the plan all along, plus have the sweet ability to custom make some other races without having to Mod them in with a bunch of hard work and importing models and everything that goes along with it. The AI will only be one file anyway. What will change from faction to faction will be how those factions play and what the AI does with what each fa

Raven, this is a good post, and this is something, what is worth to discuss. I understand that what are you saying, and I still say that we need to have these static factions. First of all, it's part of the game lore. Each factions should play differently, in a unique way. That is fun. Sure it's predictable, but it's not a big problem. If you randomize them, you will figure out that how they gonna play later on anyways. Also, the AI will be more challenging with having static fa
The question is what level of complexity should be introduced. Do we have Factions AND Races that are distinct or do we simplify and simply talk about factions. NT, I've made a sorta similar suggestion a while ago as well: https://forums.elementalgame.com/370949 This feature must be implemented...even if we won't have it in the retail game, it must be added later on in an expansion.
My bias is to focus on our own canon and introduce players to it. Players could still create their own races but they’re not going to be making any half-dragon half man races or Ents or what have you. That’s my bias on it because that sort of thing can be added later in post-release if the game’s successful whereas we only get one opportunity to really explore the depths of the rift between say Kraxis and Capitar or the doom of Paride

Yeah, we've talked about this, and it's a must have feature in my book. Froggie has posted something regarding this [..I am unable to find his post/reply], and IIRC he has mentioned that this is not implemented yet, or something like that. So I think that trained units will get xp and lvl up in some upcoming beta version.

How can we do a poll when we haven't even seen what the factions will finally be like (tech trees, faction buildings, magic, 3D graphics ...)?
At the moment we just don't know much about most of the factions. Too much stuff is missing from the game to really get to know any factions that well. So the poll numbers can be kind of misleading that way. We certainly need factions to play against. While I might like to create my own, I also like to play as some of the built in ones and really don't want to have to create ones to play against. Letting people create their own races is c
