I'm not just pointing out for my own sake, they dont want to reduce sales because people cant run it sorry, but this just isnt going to happen. besides, I highly doubt even some halfway decent rigs (not the best, f u kosc) could take the task of 50+ PDS ships active. I think Ironclad can get around any performance problems for slower machines by allowing a choice in the level of unit/effect detail and graphics performan

Point defense System: shooting down missile, torpedo, bomber ...etc... It's a legitimate defense on most capital ships (the carriers nowaday carry the AEGIS system). The thing the bothers me is how often capitals ship missing out this feature in most game, and with it the lack of of missiles/torpedo battery. Not only it create a good realistic feel, the sound affect can add a great deal to the atmosphere if done right. If anyone had played Swords of the Star, you will find
For those who played the beta, is there a point defense system like AEGIS, AMS, or CIWS ...etc... in the game? I played many Space combat both simulation and RTS like, and now come to think of it I find it weird that there is one thing that missing from most game: missile battery. And in return it made a point defense system a mute point. One of the few game ... actually the only game I can think of that come with a point defense system is Sword of The Stars, the missile b
A funny ideal here ... but if you guys really prefer randomness then I think a dice roll system in D&D works quite well, it pretty much have everything you guys are talking about ... and backed by logic. Weapon have a hit range and threat range (critical range), this helps the weapon will work the way they're supposed to. Randomness is good, but they're needed to have certain limit and properly control. You talk about luck, but too much luck can result in illogical infuriating in games.
well, for game like this it's actually easier to control the limit of Dreadnought. In most game, it's the matter of chunk it out, and once you can make one, it's a matter of time before you can make a dozen, and we end up with Dreadnought exclusive game. But from my understanding (don't have beta) SOASE has an unkeep system is it not? (Surprise nobody has mentioned it or I'm getting the wrong impression). It can make Dreadnought an important and must have asset but too much to main
Something like the Colossus in Freespace 2 would be cool. I think if it's implemented right Super Dreadnought (sounds better then Super Mega right?) can add a lot of strategy and provide some spikes to intensify the game at certain point. The only bad thing is when they make those too powerful while too easy to access and acquire.
So, I was playing a big huge map with eight races on tough. After a period of time under harashment I got the ball rolling and wave a brutal war against the Thailan Empire (the strongest faction). I knocked out half of their colonies when I received a message saying some baka engineer unearth a special peace keeping force and they will active all over the galaxy destroying any warships that are ourside their border . I said "screw this, I'll smoke these tree huggers just the same
I haven't been disappointed in defense so far. Just 8 points of Duranthium armor in a Tough game I'm playing allowed a single medium hull cruiser armed with two Nanorippers to fend of an onslaught of 15 five small ship fleets of Drengin ships. I kid you not, 15 FLEETS. Using Duranthium armor I take that your game haven't gotten very far on the technology. If you have read what we're talking so far the proble
About the game is imbalance with the proposed system ... well, the game is already imbalance as it is now , only this imbalance is against capital ship. True, the proposed system make it imbalance against smaller ship. However, between an unrealistic illogical imbalance and a realistic logical imbalance, I think I'm better off with the latter. There is still uses for fighters, like as patrol, or as a local defense force, not to defeat but to hold of enemy until you g
I posted my opinion about this a while back, I don't think the reason is with the defense, but with the weapon. The concept about "you can mount as long as you have space" is not exactly a logical way to think about. Like in real life, three 5" guns is not the equivalent of one 15" gun. The problem here is that every ship class share the same technology. That's the main reason why defense get as more useless as the game goes, since as the tech advance the gap between raw damage and
My biggest grip with the AI's strategy in DL is how the AI is so passive in defense its territory. From what I have been reading in this thread it doesn't improve in this regard. I usually play on tough, and my strategy is actually a little different. Note that I don't plan on taking over the AI in a timely fashion, or an agressive players, however it's easy to keep the AI off balance: + The AI doesn't seem to have the concept of intercepting (or rarely) neither it know how to
- your final verdict is unreasonable imo. 7.8? if it's a 7.8 then what expansion pack shouold dark avatar be held up to for comparison? I would really like to know of a better expansion pack that has been released for a strategy game in the history of pc gaming. I mean it. Name a single strategy game expansion pack that has ever been released that is better than dark avatar. And if you can't name it, then how can you say it's a 7.8?
About making an Anti-Fighter Battleship, I did, but that doesn't mean I'm Ok with that. Because again, it's very ackward the way it is now. The thing is, with Medium or even Large Hull, the A.I as I said still distribute points for all equipments, they only don't do that for the fighter. So at this point the ship class that really dominate the battlefield in term of fire power is not cruisers, frigates, or even battleships, but fighters! Now does that sound strange? To the person w
Recently there is something that I found quite to be a problem. It's a long post so please bear with me. It's the balance between fighter and judgenaut classes toward late game when the tech tree is almost max for each side. Here is the detail from my analysis: - At the beginning the different is obvious enough and the bigger ship has clear advantage. Since the equipment size is generally large and the ships don't have much point without good miniturization. - Bu
I hate to say it, but I agree with waitingtoconnect. I am sure lots of people have, but I haven't even played through the existing campaign and probably wouldn't play through an expansion's campaign. I would like to second this notion. I never really feel the draw to the campaign in a sandbox type of game, especially not the way the campa
Patch 1.1 really makes some nice change about the AIs, I'm usually fine with spreading my research among different weapon for improvising purpose, prior to 1.1 it's ok this way since AIs pretty much do the same thing. Not any more though, while I was jumping between Phasor and Photonic Toperdo tech the ... what is their name, those little green head? (not the Torian) jump me with some ships ... guess what they're carrying: BLACKHOLE
about the ship packs ... can you add some variant templates for the AI's ship as well, like some difference designs between their M1 - M2 - M3 - M4 models.
Ok, to the people saying owning 2 or more then one resource is overpower. Well, IT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. You have one, you have an edge, you have 2, of course you'll be kicking ass. The resource is random, some game you can not find one for your name, some game you get for free, some game you have to fight for it, that's the whole point of it. As I said, don't try to nerf it to the point of meaningless just for balance shake like the
I can vow against the OP, it's not "5" minutes, it can be easily half an hour or more. I know because that's what happened, I'm not a patience type so I waited, but after 20 minutes without making its appearance I think my topic can use a little love
well, I do agree that the Influence resource is insane, and it's the only resource that's needed toned down.
nope, I like the way they are, these resources are supposed to give the owner an "edge" over the others and it should serve that purpose. It's like the Air Force in RTS games, Airforce is supposed to be ass kicker and yet for that "balance" reason they're nuffed most of the time to a point of rediculous. That's why it's imperitive to secure these resources and defend them, everything is fine and good until you declare war, in which th
go to your preference - interface tap and uncheck the "only show battle when both sides are fleets" box.
the sheer amount of bugs being reporting in because many players here are beta testing the 1.1 patch. And you know, bug and patch go together. The 1.1 patch beta is optional for those who want to help out fastening the process of making the patch, it's not an official release. The latest official release is the 1.0X, if you get that one you won't run into bugs, only very few and by the time you notice those bugs, 1.1 probably will be out. <img src="ht
Both HOMM5 and Spellforce 2 will still have copy protection, just not Starforce. Well, everyone should also check all the comments make on those article, not just reading the article itself. You can easily notice that most people starts making Stardock as something you would call ... a figure head. An
