First time poster (huh; guess I can use my Impulse account to post here). I think I've found a way to fix this. Was looking at my custom races' .xml data, to see if there was anything different from the coreraceconfig .xml which has all the original races, and I noticed one thing: For the original races, all of them had 'Good' or 'Evil' Alignment tags. For all of my custom factions, they

Have you tested by running a save both with and with the cleaner to see the difference? I'm curious. Thanks. I have yet to crash using this memory utility. Haven't had a chance to play more than an hour or so, though. The real test comes later tonight and tomorrow as I am off the next few days. [/quote

It's actually a very simple game hidden under some confusing and poorly documented mechanics. Produce food and gildars, build huts/houses/villas, and hire every hero you can and build up your defense techs (with an occasional offense thrown in for good measure). Magic/Adventure/Diplomacy you can research when you have nothing better to do in the other tech trees. The opening turns are probably the most difficult and are the only ones the require a modicum of thought/strate
Just a real quick note here: While some problems people run into are indeed due to hardware configurations, in my experience, the difference has to do with the way people play the game.
I'm playing the game the same way I was in the betas. What frustrates me is that the late betas (s/t onward) did NOT crash, but the final release does. What changed between the betas and the release??

I'm using Memory Cleaner prior to running the game and having better success. Obviously this should not be necessary. http://www.koshyjohn.com/software/

XP SP3 32-bit. Frustrating as hell since I was really enjoying the game with 1.09v. :(
Okay, so I kept my mouth shut and waited for the great 1.1 patch; finally get it and less than 1 hour into my first game it CTDs.
Really? Only takes me about 30 minutes. I played every beta, watched the game get more and more stable until 1.09v when it never crashed at all. Then they put out 1.1 and it's back to crashing every 30 minutes.
I haven't crashed since the beta. It must be you or your computer.
No

Strike three. Game froze up and had to do a hard reboot. Honestly, v1.09v was WAY more stable than this - never crashed or froze once in hours and hours of play. I'm going to go play Civ 5 now until you guys figure out what's wrong. I can't play more than 30 minutes without crashing or freezing. New game, new CTD. Just declared war on Magnar and crashed after advancing into his territory. Log and most recent saves: Log: http://home.comcast.net/~daly916/debug2.rar

My first CTD in a while (since 1.09t I think). Fought a battle, got the results screen and the game crashed. Log: http://home.comcast.net/~daly916/debug.rar

To be safe, you can un-check the "Show pre-release versions" checkbox and then right click on Elemental in Impulse and select "Verify Installation". It will say your version is wrong. Update it like normal and you will get rolled back to 1.09e.

Newb! :p Hold down the scroll-wheel on your mouse and move the mouse. I think Shift + Arrow keys is supposed to work too, in case you have no scroll-wheel.

Can I just say, I think the pose of the character (Watcher) in this screenshot is stupid looking. There's another one similar to it that bugs me as well. Can these be changed? Nice dev journal though - THANKS! [e digicons]:D[/e]

I turned off anti-aliasing and now I get long pauses where it was crashing, but the game resumes. Nevermind - it's locking up again.

Game keeps freezing around turn 60 or so. Latest debug: http://content.screencast.com/users/Stuie_acs/folders/Elemental_Logs/media/6aed544f-a3c4-4217-8d19-b61f26e9ff88/debug.rar?downloadOnly=true

Seriously though, I moved up a difficulty level (to "Challenging") in conjunction with 1.09E, and I found the wandering monsters more challenging - as in I lost a couple undefended cities to brigands - never saw that before. The other AI sovereigns though... they are still kind of push-overs.
You can no longer stack multiple of the same item type (i.e. ring), but system would make more sense if you were limited to 2 rings and 1 necklace. Your Sovereign isn't Mr.T after all.
You forgot the Golden Rule: He who wears the gold, rules. Sucka.

I love this thing - never play a map without it. One question: Is it possible to add some way to save the default settings? I use the same settings almost every time, but they are about 5% below all the current defaults, and one map size larger. It would be nice to be able to save my preferred settings. Thanks again for this tool cephalo !
