yeah, i've noticed that. i also noticed how it takes forever to build a new planet when all you have is expensive high end stuff to put on to it. maybe a good alternative way around this would be two new game options. in Civ, you have to build a library to build a university. it's really annoying when an event happens that creates a new planet for you late game. when i'm trying to build up industry on a new planet and the only option i have is 'industrial sector', i can either spend a fortune,

What an interesting thread. it started on initiative, and I agree with what Levolun said. it would be nice if the weapon techs were a little more than paper/rock/scissors. at the same time, too much more would complicate this game. i don't think the emphasis with this game is the battles. still, i agree that there should be a little more informing my decision that what my enemies have and what i know about how the techs space/damage ratios work. Devious Toast, your analysis was excellent. i thi

i just played through a tech-victory game to get a sense of the full tech tree... i like doing that with new 4E games. the only tech i didn't pursue to the end was mass drivers. but i was a little confused and dissappointed when i got to the end of the beam weapons branch. the three high-end beam weapons seem to suck, at least in my version of the game. it seems more like a bug. teh subspace blaster comes up as a 12-space, 6-damage weapon (worse than disruptors and phasors), with one

what about getting rid of rally points under star bases? i started doing that as a way to sort of auto-build star bases, except i ended up with almost a dozen rally points i never used before that. i guess it's not a big deal... just kind of annoying. i like keeping my map as clean as possible.

agreed, i just think the planets in home systems deserve a bit better than numbered suffixes

so... a big part of a game like GalCiv is customizability, and along those lines one detail that is very distant fron strategy and not very hard to achieve technically, that is names. and its something very near and dear to my heart. one of my biggest peevs with GalCiv1 was that you couldn't rename a planet individually. it also bugged me that the sol system had five planets: earth, mars, saturn, and sol iv/v. maybe it's too much to ask for a completely accurate sol system. but there'

okay... im a little new... id like to humbly offer an opinion. i liked the *idea* of the minor races in the first one, but i agree with some of the criticisms. i like the idea for two reasons. there's no reason to think life isn't everywhere, for starters, but that doesn't even mean all "intelligent" life would have the drive to expand on the level the 'major' races do/should. the major races' expansionist personalities are divierse, but also well-explained in the game vis-a-vis eleme
