Graphics actually have held up modestly well, due, I think, to the colorful and less... what we now call "gritty." Putting that aside, though: I still enjoy MOO2's non-standard take on research (In that, most races will research towards a broad category, such as Communications, and usually be presented with 3 different technologies. 1 they will recieve, and the others will have to be stolen or traded for). There are exceptions, with a trait that allows you to recieve all three (or how

Reply to Warlords II in PC Gaming

I never could get Warlords II or III working with dosbox. I even went so far as to install a Win 98 VM on my laptop. It got it to load the game, but it always crashed within 3 or 4 minutes. A pity, as I had a lot of fun with the demo for Warlords III when I was a kid. Warlords IV, sadly, felt more like a truely terrible Warlords Battlecry mod than a game in its own right. But I get by with Wesnoth for that fantasy turn based feeling. I get....by....

Kohan and Age of Wonders both used an overlay for city placement, and other games (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Starcraft) have used similar overlays for building placement to great effect. I am in favor for such an overlay. It also doesn't have to be automatic (to skip that extra button click when founding a city) but could just use some key command, than when held down, would call the overlay. Quick tap of it, and you have that second's peak you needed to plan for another city.

[quote quoting="post"] It is true that the console world made a lot of improvements. Console games are now as powerful as PC games, they allow you to play online and they do not have the bugs of the PC: compatibility problems, crashes, etc. Like my friend once said: "when you want to play a console game, you place the game in the console, you push power and it works". The only advantage the PC game has right now, is that you can mod your game. Which is only a matter of time since consol

Reply to CnC4 sucking in PC Gaming

I'm confused at people's suprise over this. Let's face it, each CnC (and Red Alert) game has been worse than the last. And the "features" they were touting about for this one made my stomach, amoung other body parts, clench up. Ten minute matches, match-making, these are not the things a strategy gamer is looking for. I'd rather be playing Europa Universalis 3. Actually, on that note, I'll be seeing you guys.

I don't think I asw it mentioned, but what about something like.... Military Pageantry: Your armies are constantly taking part in dazzling parades and state ceremonies, wearing only the finest livery. (Increased moral at the cost of increased unit upkeep.) On the flip side you could have the opposite, calling it something like Frugal or perhaps austere....

It does sound like memory or perhaps heat issues, common enough with laptops. I have the same issue playing some games like CS, I find it is enough just to elevate the laptop a bit encourage better airflow.

Anyone playing it? I preordered it and played it for a few hours yesterday. while it has been fairly enjoyable so far, I have to say I'm not wowed the way I was with the first game. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] The graphics under max settings seem, somehow, to be out-of-date already. It is in dire need of some AA and the textures are for the most part fairly bland. not a huge issue, but took me a little while to become immersed. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] The

Definitly a niche-market publisher, but I've never regretted a purchase with them. (I bought Space Empires V through Steam, so technically I blame Steam for that one!)

Recently Illwinter and Shrapnel Games released their old fantasy TBS game Conquest of Elysium II for free. It is a definit influence on the Dominions series, and shares some common ground with MoM. I'd suggest reading the included manual. Each race have their own gameplay mechanics, and I was rather lost until I did. www.shrapnelgames.com/Our_Games/Free_Games.html I'm finding it highly addictive.

I'm not a computer expert by any means, but when looking at new laptops keep in mind that 32bit operating systems cannot utilize more than 4 gigs or RAM (looking at dxdiag, it actually seems to be about 3 gigs!) so avoid any "gaming rigs" that are trying to sell you RAM you can't use. As for windows 7, I haven't tried it yet, but it can't be worse than Vista, right?

I really should be going to work, but this thread has gotten my tail feathers in a bunch. I came here to bash Fringe for being overly simplistic. I was a bit too young to get into the X-Files, but of what I've seen I enjoy it much more. Fringe is X-Files "lite." As for Flash Forward, I'm still undecided. I like it, but as mentioned earlier, sometimes it does move far too slowly. Now that I've achieved what I had come in here for, let me move on to what really ma

Well, I certainly hope those of us who pre-ordered in last month wont have to wait until January for Beta Access, fun or not. Especially since the pre-order page states that Beta access opens up again at "the end of fall." Heck, you could consider TODAY to be the end of fall. I'll be here waiting either way, of course.

I'm merely guessing here, but based on the way things looked in the video it seems that the "Scout pack" would act in a similar way as training. IE, instead of hiring/training a scout unit, you build it from the same basic stock as any other soldier, and it is up to you to deside how much armour and the like to invest. Likely the "scout pack" gives the unit something like increased visual range, better mobility over certain terrain, or some other similar bonus. EDIT: Ac

I have to agree with the majority of people here against the OP. I've been playing Dragon Age since release, without the WK DLC, and I haven't had the feeling that I'm missing something. Nor is the "unenhanced" game short or lacking of replayability. I'm on my second playthrough (I haven't beaten the first, yet, I just wanted to try a different class), about 20-21 hours in and something like 19% completed. At this rate I'll be getting 100 hours out of this playthrough alone. That's none to sh
