Real name gives one hit mentioning me (cursed! I figured it would have drifted of the net by now). My first name leads to a couple of fantasy characters. Nick gives about 11.900 hits, which I can safely assume are all me. Most of those come from various DevArt user profiles. I feel so Remi now. Thankfully, aafuss has finally learned how to type.
Wish I could upgrade my trusty WRT54G to this latest technology, but I'd probably have to get a new router instead then. Then again, the WRT54G works like a charm. Although it sometimes overheats (which slows everything down to a crawl), but I haven't seen that anymore since I switched from cable to ADSL, so it might have other causes.
What I want to know is how that 1/3rd estimate came into being. We're talking peer to peer, decentralised traffic here. How and where have they been measuring that?

Anyway, those of you who haven't been through Customize.org when it was a great leading site may just see this as pointless venting. Indeed. I take it you got flamed (as usual), but what's the point of this post at this site? Not very constructive.
foobar. It's not skinnable *shock*, it looks very basic *horror*, but it's light-weight, has a great playlist, is oh so flexible and does almost exactly what I want. I don't need to see my player, I just want to hear it and control it via hotkeys.

I've swapped components so much that I really can't tell no more what's inside my machine, aside from that it has an 800MHz AMD T-Bird processor, 640 megs of RAM, which has never hit its limit, and three drives with a total of twenty partitions. I love slicing up my drives. Latest alterations were silencing components, but I still can hear it (though none of my friends can).

What those two propose is a karma system. A system where people can rate your comments. The big risk of that is that it depends on the people voting.
That might have something to do with me never ever having run any of these widget frameworks. I fell of the bandwagon three turns ago, beyond that hill.

Microsoft has to release a WMP-free version of XP (hurray!). But note that no date was given for that release (as far as I know). And this does not mean that the "regular" WMP-infested version of XP will disappear, just that there needs to be a WMP-free alternative.
So we can conclude already: yeah, it's worth it.
I think jier may have a point there with the matching theme issue. Windowskinners might have played their part in it all, but I don't think they were decisive. Trouble is, in a lot of apps, the skinnability was just a gimmick to make them popular. It doesn't really work that way. In the end, people do prefer functionality and the skinnable apps tended to have less of that. Ergo, no, I don't think widgets have anything to do with it.
No time for article writing. But in short a number of things I've noticed: 1) there's a shift from skinners to consumers; 2) the number of (independent) skinnable apps is dwindling (as said). If you want to see this, take heed of the new releases. Which apps are released, by whom and how often. Back in '98/99 updates were seemingly daily. And 3) the smaller skin sites are drying up. Christmas time is the time when people have money and time to spend, so it's the ideal time to release movies. And winter, with its cold, dark nights, is the perfect season for horror (although autumn is an even better season). I'd say you're reading to much into it.
I'd say it was a bad year for skinning in general. If you look outside of this site, the diversity of apps is severely dwindling. Only a handfull are (regularly) updated and the rest just vanish. And I doubt it's the widgets that are the cause of this.
Photoshop. Mainly because I use it at work all the time. It doesn't really matter what you use, as long as it gets the job done.
