Odds are the next SD release will be tested more carefully/made sure it's ready before being released. One of my regrets about the Elemental beta was not saying myself that I didn't think the game was in a good release state, but I didn't feel like I could judge it fairly, since I didn't do the GCII DL beta, and didn't see the state that game was in on launch. Didn't really do pre-orders for SD stuff until DA. &

This is a very good hire. Also glad to see Jon free from 2K. now Brad needs to go get Sid. ^_^
[quote who="Cryptomancer" reply="73" id="2859209"] quoting post Start[ing] Monday, 3 new people join Stardock and are being added to the Elemental team. And two of them are pretty well known and the other is an amazing game developer that we've bee[n] fortunate enough to find. Awesome! Dominate is still in 1.1. One of the heroes has it.
There was collaboration between SD and Firaxis back in the Civ 4/GC 2 days. It could be from that time.
I think hexes are better also, but Brad doesn't, and that's what counts.
Normal is the best for world setting I believe. Challenging you get excessively strong monsters early game, which turns it into a lottery, and a bit of an unfun one.
Sid Meier himself would be a big name.
Most AAA console games have massive amounts of DLC. It's becoming more and more common. Some is good DLC, some is bad. I got no problem with DLC if it's a legitimate value, and don't gimp the experience for people who don't want it. It makes sense for publishers also, as people are increasingly buying games used due to the extra cost. DLC ensures that they at least get some money out of it. (If they were smart, they'd lower the sale price and have more/make
On the first part, I agree entirely, that's how I would want to do it. Second part, it should depend on the spell. Third part- I just don't see being able to learn spells fast wouldn't help you learn new ones.
[quote who="kyogre12" reply="8" id="2858710"] I expect the end of free-to-play online next console gen (I doubt the PS4 has free online) does it for me with consoles. To an extent it already is over; Xbox Live Gold and PSN Plus (PSN Plus is optional and isn't required for online multiplayer, but it is a step in that direction). Still, I will bet you just about anything that the next generation of Nintendo console will have free online, partly because it won't be as extensive as
[quote who="Frogboy" reply="49" id="2858422"]Re Magic. I think some people are not understanding fully what a magic "system" is. The magic system in Elemental is fine. It's the details that need to be improved and how it manifests itself in the game (tactical battles and such). I don't envision us doing away with the concept of mana, shards, etc. We plan to make use of existing capabilities that we're not currently using (cool downs, cast times, etc.).
Found the laptop I wanted today 160GB solid state drive- I don't need a large HD, I'm only using 60 Gigs of my current HD. Quad Core, 8 GB Ram, 1GB Graphics Card (more then enough for the types of things I play) 17" Got for just over $1200.
I did have the thought today of Sony allying with Valve and Apple to make a PS4-compatible Mac using a Mac OS and Steamworks for their PSN. No idea if that would make any business sense whatsoever though, and I know Sony couldn't use Windows, so Mac was the next best choice. I expect the end of free-to-play online next console gen (I doubt the PS4 has free online) does it for me with consoles. I don't think the situation is

I consider 1.0 to be 1.0. It wasn't a beta. It just wasn't a very good game (with the benefit of hindsight and sleep). Players got their pound of flesh out of us an
I still think a min strength should be required to attack caravans. One peasant with a club, wolf, or darkling shouldn't be able to take out a caravan.
one idea- caravans get a str value based on the power rating of the faction, so 1 darkling cannot take out caravans once you get strong enough?
Noticed another bad AI behavior today. The AI will throw troops at a city lose, then throw the same strength of troops again several turns later. The AI should at least use twice what it did before in that case.

You've been hiding in your mom's basement for so long we almost forgot about you. I hope you'll share your words of wisdom in other threads too. Came up with this in the morning. Rule: you can only cast a spell in a battle x number of times in a battle. X is your spell level / level of the spell. If you have spell level 4, you can cast a lvl 1 spell 4 times, lvl 2 twice, level 3 or 4 once. lvl 0 spells have no limit. To me, this would encourage researching a breadth of spells, not just spam arcane arrow/spell blast/touch
I like this idea as a general rule. That said, it's hard to balance this way. Heroes will also need to be magic resistant, or armies will need to be vulnerable to magic (fireball spells do triple damage to groups of 3 perhaps, and so on?)
I disagree. what I think is needed is for the computer opponent AI screen to just add the following -default AI difficulty -random AI opponents I prefer to play at normal or challenging world difficulty and challenging AI.

I've had to do it frequently. That bad, some population structures are rather underpowered- take the tower of sorcery for the empire. It provides 4 arcane knowledge- but requires more people then 4 arcane labs. (it's a little quicker to get up, but requires lvl 2 city) Pop requirement should be reduced on that building. I run into pop issues frequently, if I don't luck out on food.
