First thing I noticed, load times seem to be much much better on initial load. Will need to test on my slower comp though.

Reply to Beta Tomorrow? in FE Beta

If this game was like WOM, I wouldn't be caring whether the beta came out tomorrow or not. Right now, I'd say, worst-case scenario, this game ends up being "good", so it's worth getting. There's a very good chance this game ends up "great", with some chance of ending up a classic.

True, but this beta is not the final product, so if it's messed up, you just fix the mess up. I'm thinking in terms of maximizing what I'm getting out of FE, and frequent updating does make a game more enjoyable, because you get the incremental improvements. That said, this may not be best for Stardock. Daily updates would be great for us players, but it would cost SD enough money that we'd end up with an inferior final product (the budget is

If it doesn't come tomorrow, I'm going to start getting impatient/frustrated. I have no motivation to play .86 knowing .87 is vastly different. either that or Paradox is paying Stardock money to delay the beta until Warlock comes out to get us to buy that in frustration. ^_^ Look on the bright side Stardock- it's better to have your customers mad about wanting more of your product then mad about the product itself- that&#39

Has it been 5 years since Twilight? Brad said after Twilight it would be at least 5 years before anything would even start, and the WOM issues probably added some more time to the clock. I think it happens, but not until late 2014 at the earliest. That said, with Brad's talks about what he doesn't like about GC2, and Derek's design- I can see GC3 having high potential to be a classic.

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="27" id="3128615"]I wouldn't normally comment on something as ridiculous as this topic. But the irony is too much to ignore. The monsters, creatures, and races you see in Elemental were *designed* and *concepted* by Leo and Akil who are Chinese and African American respectively. Specifically, 100% of it. The races and beings of Elemental come in all shapes, sizes and colors. If someone wants to have more visual controls on the unit de

I'm getting the impression that SD is concerned about putting out a buggy beta, and then having folks blast the game saying it's no better then WOM. I think they are going too far in the other direction, I have no incentive to play .86, and a big part of my enjoyment of SD products has been the beta process and getting the new stuff in.

[quote who="kryo" reply="1" id="3125577"] I just re-installed Stardock Central and it shows ZERO of my old Stardock games there? What's up with that? Are you sure you're using the same account? If you contact [email protected], they should be able to help track it down. The new SDC only lists those titles that are currently available for direct download (latest release of each title, generally), but Elemental will at least be in there if it is on that account. You

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="11" id="3125649"]What he's talking about, and I agree (Even though it demonstrates my weaknesses as a designer) is that choices need to matter. Don't have lots of choices of ambiguous meaning, have fewer choices that have very obvious meaning. Magnar should have mechanics I think where they have to keep more garrisons or suffer unrest due to all the slaves, though certain buildings should counter this some (barracks)

One idea: how about kickstarting MP mode to see if it's profitable: No idea how much it would cost to implement, but it folks raised say , what you traditionally raise as a percentage of the budget from pre-orders and a bit more on top, then you'd do it? Only incentive would be free copy of the game if you put in $20 or something.

I still think the .86 system is unfun, gamey and overkill. There has to be a better, more interesting system to deal with hero SoD. I do not know what that system would be, I just know I strongly dislike the current system, though the alternative is almost as bad. I'd suggest these tweaks 1) The penalty for heroes only kicks in fully at lvl 5 2) Boss monsters don't cause this split

I'm against a hard cap on number of buildings in a city as well, as that just encourages unit spam, which is a traditional problem with Stardock games.

I don't like snakes - too many exploits. That said, I do think resources need to be protected from weak monsters, provided they're under a city or outpost ZOC.
