One strategy in GC2 I came up with was something I called the Mayfly Defense Grid. I built tiny ships with 1 attack and 1 defense, and as many engines and I could pile on. My lesser colonies could pump these things out. I had the big colonies generating my general purpose ships, medium ones making constructors. With the constructors, I formed a line of military bases on my borders, and pumped up their attack and defense assist as high as I could. Because the attack and defense assist in GC2 j
Quoting Kazriko, reply 9 and every star port pumping out constructors that I used to make influence bases everywhere, Just to check you, where you building those bases in enemy territory? Influence bases don't work like they did in Gal
I played my first game on Beginner, and it took over 12 hours. I suppose I could have cut half that time off if I didn't try to culture-flip the last two races. That failed miserably, btw. I think culture flipping is mostly useless this time around. I had every planet in the galaxy aside from 4, and every star port pumping out constructors that I used to make influence bases everywhere, I had a favorable-to-me influence thing going on in the UP, and I managed to get one of the enemy plane
Here's a tiny feature request for bases and constructors. Can we make it so we select what constructor is made when you request one, and none are available? It keeps trying to make the default constructor that costs 4x as much time as the one I normally build.
My one other complaint would be the lack of Linux support, but I don't expect that to change any time soon. It's depressing though. GC3 is the last game I bought before I went over to linux completely, and the only reason that I have to ever reboot to Windows. Because I haven't booted to Windows in 6 months, I haven't been able to play GC3 beta at all, last time I played was in Alpha. I think I will reboot it once the 1.0 release is out though, but not sure how long I'll s
I guess I'm weird, but I actually enjoy it when the Minor races are a little more active in the game. In GalCiv2, I would ally-up with all of the non-evil minor races. I'd blocade their worlds with constructors to keep enemies from attacking them until I managed to ally up with them. I'd give them ships to use them as pawns in a proxy war. It kind of annoyed me when most of the minor race AIs were utterly incapable of utilizing the resources I give them in order to fight back agai
I guess being the Stardock CEO means you don't have to abide by silly rules like the ban on political/inflammatory threads.
This isn't REALLY a thread. It's a reply section of his own personal blog that seems to somehow get cross-posted to the forums. I guess that's how Stardock's blog system works though.
Sometimes we don't want to post as ourselves because of the very people whom you are talking about. Not that most people's anonymity would stop them from being as much of jerks to us. I prefer Pseudonymity just to add some small barrier to the jerks of the world and keep it separate. I use the same name everywhere, so I build up a reputation on that name rather than my real one.
I honestly don't get the complaints about the $100 thing. I know that when I buy a GalCiv game, I'm going to spend quite a bit more money to get the expansions later. With this, I'm just paying for those expansions up front. It's almost like they don't realize how much extra paid content will be included.
I thought I'd pop in here and mention that I've tested this on my A10-7850k APU with no video card. I switched to this setup because I was tired of the instability in every graphics card I had. Graphics seems to be quite solid at 1920x1080, not the best framerate, but absolutely playable. I'm surprised at how stable this seems already. I've only played for a couple hours, but by this point on the released version of E:WoM I was getting at least 2 crashes. Only on
It sounds like Mantle got them spooked a bit. Now we just need OpenGL to do something similar so we have a fast multithreaded graphics library that works across all platforms. (Mantle only works on GCN, DX12 only works on Microsoft platforms. These overlap, but miss a fair amount of the market.)
I'm sure GC1 had pretty effective cultural warfare. I had more than one Party Fun Terrorstar victories, where I just took my culturally maxed terror starbase around from planet to planet taking them over with culture, since Terrorstars were the only starbases that could move.
Per previous posts Galactic Civilizations III is not using Oxide/Mantel engine as that was designed after, and it's using it's own engine.
Thanks! I must have missed that post. It's too bad though, my APU works great with Starswarm and was hoping GC3 would work as well.
Is this alpha running on the Oxide/Mantle engine, or is it an upgraded version of the Legendary Heroes engine?
According to Sidekick, the kickstarter for the physical card game has a 94% chance of succeeding...
Take my money... soon. I have to get out to about January until I have $100 to spend, the next two months are going to be murder on by finances with the PS4 coming out.
Please, please consider releasing a Mac/Linux version of this. Or at least try and make it more Wine-friendly than GalCiv 2 was.
Yes to Linux. I'd also accept a PS4 version of this. :)
P.S. Please rethink your latest logo. IMHO, even the one from 1993 looked better.
The only thing I noticed about it is that it looks too Windows 8-ish. As for people leaving the company voluntarily... Jon Shafer? Or was he on the tail end of the prior era?
I've always been a libertarian, but the increased automation and ideas of post-scarcity economics has always been the sticking point in the ideas, and the point of future concern. Obviously the solution is to move people into other fields as has been done with all technological revolutions of the past, but this requires good education. Good education is something that our country has been sorely lacking. Until the education system is capable of bringing all people up to be c
I certainly would enjoy more space adventure games. I enjoy fantasy adventure games too, but SciFi is still my favorite arena, and we get far more strategy and action games in space than RPGs. Of course, back in the day I was more of a fan of Hyperspeed and Lightspeed, (Wonder what ever happened to those games?) and I barely played StarControl, but I like Toys for Bob's work on other things, and the little I played of SC2 I enjoyed.
Having only briefly played Star Control back when it was new, I'm not sure how much I can contribute to this... But I would find it quite amusing if the Snathi managed to make their way into the game.
I need around 7. less than 6 and I get fuzzy, more than 9 gives me headaches. I try to play philosopher/diplomat/peacemaker, but I probably end up in Profundus Maximus or Picador territory sometimes. ;)
Galactic Civilizations 3? Star Control? I enjoy Elemental, but not nearly as much as GC2 and Star Control.
I'm hoping for a console port of the new StarControl game. PS4 and Vita perhaps? :) (Maybe Xbox One too, for the people on the other side...)
The conference met expectations. Partially, because my expectations for Microsoft have never been lower.
I have no doubt I'll be getting one eventually, but I'm still waiting for the technology to mature a bit more. I'm probably going to wait for some models with 2-3 print heads with different materials, and preferably the filament producing machines for recycling plastics back into usable materials. As for that printable firearm... There's cheaper ways of producing much more reliable firearms... They're not a particularly advanced technology. A CNC machine would be a
