Granted...but I swear such games exist; like I said, I remember one where there was a conquest part to it, where players fought for dominance over a galaxy and, once achieved--or failed--the game would reset itself. Mind, that might have been back in the text-only BBS days--I don't remember--but I swear it's been done.
Yes, there are many examples in BBS door games of games that you would fight to win t
If games stop having story-driven (or strategy) single player games.. I will never play a video game again.
I wouldn't do that, mainly because if I looked at the games in my backlog alone, I'd probably have a couple of decades worth of games to play still. If I went looking for old single player games that I haven't played yet, that would probably get me another 50 years.
I tend to avoid multiplayer myself. Personally, I think Multiplayer is a bigger gamble since only a handful of these take off at a time since those who play multiplayer things tend to find one and stick to it for a long period of time, while single player gamers tend to play more serially and buy many games in the same timeframe. That means even if there's more people who play multiplayer, there's fewer winners in the multiplayer space. As for if I'll get Star Control Origins or
Former Stardock OS/2 user here, and I still buy Stardock software. (Though, not quite as much as when I actually used Windows.)
If I had less limited money, I'd be looking at a dual socket Epyc system with 64 cores total. As it is, I'll stick to my combination of a Ryzen 7 1700 and a Opteron 6176x2 24 core system. The latter is old, but it's not bad for compiling. Probably not as fast as an 18 core modern system though, as it just barely beats out my current 8 core modern system for highly parallel workloads.

But what I can't wrap my head around is: Why is expansion allways favorable? To take the example of super markets, at some point you have good coverage, so everyone has one nearby. How do you profit from expanding then? Amazon could have more distribution centers a

The real big question to ask about this is what the net effect will be on the population, and how it will be affected. Personally, I think they would try to find a way to set it up so that the decrease in the necessity of humans matches the natural decrease in the population due to affluence. In the developed world we're already running into the problem of aging populations and a decreasing workforce because our people are prosperous enough that they don't feel like having many childr

Freefall, such a good comic. :) But yes, the revolution and the basic minimum income isn't a guarantee. But one thing to remember with prior changes in employment, such as the one from agriculture to textiles. The improvements in agriculture were not what lead to the textiles, but rather the sudden availability of cheap labor that was underutilized. Here, the minimum wage is o
Honestly, what you've laid out there is precisely the only reason that I keep thinking we need to try a minimum basic income. I'm not sold on the idea really, but it may be the least bureaucratic way to transition to the automation future.

I certainly used the wheel myself in the game, but I'm sure the game will be better without it! The reasoning is solid as well. I am glad you are including the option to turn it on. That's entirely too nice of you. I tend to be a very research-oriented player myself. I oriented the entire civilization towards research with a few planets tweaked towards manufacturing or capital. I'd produce small ships on most planets and big ships at the manufacturing focused ones. T
Humans NOR AI, like it when people go through their territory. When an AI builds in your territory, it is annoying. When it flies fleets or colony ships, it's annoying. It annoys the player and the AI. One thing that annoyed me about the AI was that I had a pre-existing mining starbase, and many turns later the AI colonized a planet nearby, and started complaining about my starbase. 1. On the constructor spam thing, I'd like to be able to select what constructors are built by the automated constructor system, as well as specifying when you request the constructor what you want to build with it, that way it will arrive and build automatically without requiring your attention. I don't care too much how the interface is for that, but some way of queuing up starbase improvements or even having starbase governors, ala GalCiv1's colony governors, would be nice. It
