It's a nice concept with some potential but when I tried looking at one of the items it took a long time to load. What was worse was that after a couple minutes it again loaded and took just as long, and again a couple of minutes later. That's when I gave up. Has anyone else had this problem? I have never seen this kind of behavior from other streaming services (Youtube etc).
The EMPIRE uses death magic. A Fallen race could be on the side of the Kingdom.
It good to hear that there is the potential of mixing things up a bit. I was worried about that. But what about the original posters question? What is the benefit of death magic? Will the game actually make farming and production worse for kingdoms on "death" lands? If so will death magic be that much more powerful than life magic? They are in
I can't believe these companies are so stupid. They are basically encouraging people to get the hacked version that doesn't have this. Do they really think the hackers won't be able to crack this? Unless that is the case it's still going to get out there and get downloaded just as much (or more likely more) than any other game. How exactly is that helpful? All they are doing is hurting the customers who actually spend money on the game. All this for a conso
Yeah, this is an area the Civ style games have always ignored for some reason. I would really like to see weather but it can only work if the time scale is 6 months or less (assuming this world is like ours). The majority of Civ style games have long turns so it doesn't make sense. I have a feeling though that we are too far along to add it. You have all the art to add and all the ramifications on gameplay. If they don't go into some nice realistic detail
and that the upgrade should take time
This is exactly what I was thinking. I am ok with the process of upgrading happening automatically but it should still take time and preferably have a cost (though reduced). I like to believe that this world is a real place and having things pop out of thin air doesn't sit well with me. In addition I could see this causing some game balance issues. I don't know enough of the game mechanics yet to know for sur
The art isn't bad but this a game is about leading empires and casting epic spells. Why not have a similar picture but show a nice fallen army marching towards you in the distance and having the wizard conjuring some nice epic spell. The current picture is a little too generic and could easily be for an RPG which is much more common in the fastasy genre. I just think you would be better served if the picture gives the viewer a glimpse of what they can expect in the game
Many have already voiced similar opinions but I'll just add mine as well to give it more weight. The proposed system for charm is too simple. You already have a magic resistance stat and this is the perfect place to use it. It should be one of the major influences on the charm working. Creature level or strength shouldn't. For balance reasons I suppose it has to but I'd prefer seeing other ways of handling it. Borrowing from another poster, a giant mig
I believe that this is going to be handled in a similar way to Civilization. I mean you don't think this way of the "normal" humans you see every day do you? Our cultures are different enough to be considered for a fantasy world I think. We will probably see "kingdoms" of men with drastically different cultures so that they will play differently. Like possibly a more nomadic culture of horse archers, or a hierarchal society of priests or mages. I see this working very well into the gam
This alliviates my fears about everyone just being human on the Fallen side. What about the non-Fallen though? Won't they be rather dull in comparison if they are all just normal humans or is that not the case? Tolkien had elves, dwarves, hobbits and men on the good side. Will we see a similar variety with the "normals" in Elemental?
But I remain convinced that the whole question is best postponed until we see roughly-finished versions of the canon factions. This is all we ask The race design screens are currently being implemented and I think you'll be astounded by the amount of options to play with (both visual and statistical) to make a the non-canon races of your liking. We've also held off on introducing the 12 different factions that you can play as out-of-the-box. Just know that your all the OP's
What I would really like to see is a special unique victory condition for each kingdom in addition to the generic victory conditions. Each kingdom has it's own motivations and what it considers important so I think these should come into play for victory. A kingdom that is econically oriented would need accumlate gold or have a high production for instance. A militarily oriented kingdom would need to have a large army, etc. Not saying that is the only requirement
Link to the game's website It's a 4x space strategy game being developed by Code Force, a New Zealand company. What's unusual about Distant Worlds is that it's in real-time, not unlike the Imperium Galactica games. There's not a whole lot of info yet, as it's not been officially announced. However, what we've seen so far looks very promising. Also, it's an open secret that the game is going to be published by Matrix Games (the same folks wh

Wow, didn't expect the list to be so Stardock baised. They make some good games but they are not the top games of the decade. Can see Sins being up somewhat high and Gal Civ 2 being on the list but not 1 and 3. I guess it's to be expected from the Stardock forums. I wish this poll wasn't done over the holidays as I would have liked to have voted. Maybe I could have boosted up Balder's Gate and gotten Deus Ex on the list (Balder's would have been #1, Deus E
Wow, these lists are short. Mine is much longer and I probably forgot about some. Pretty much the order listed is my order of excitment/want. Reviews could change my mind on some though, I rarely buy anything the day it comes out anymore. Top 4 on the list and Starcraft 2 will be exceptions though (Elemental already is as I've preordered it). This is a PC only list as that's all I own. Elemental Star Wars: The Old Republic Alpha Proto
If I remember MOM (it's been a few years ) the different elements were fundamentally different. Life did one thing, fire another, etc. and there was very little overlap. It wasn't just Fire did Fire damage and water did water damage. I can see where having to learn the counters for each specific spell might be fun for a tactical game, but I have to agree that for a strategic game, ensuring that each unit has the correct counter might get a bit tedious. If I'm up against 'fir
The battle system has been monkeyed with several times this week internally. The current system has Attack along with a range for that attack. There is also no longer “fire” or “frost” damage but instead simply Arcane damage and Arcane resistance. It’s very similar to what Master of Magic except we have Combat speed in there too.
Are you planning on having some kind of mechanism for a fire elemental being immune to only fire damage? M
I would like to see a trait/tallent for Wider / Narrower spell tree and tech trees. Open minded, or some such. Having more spells to choose from makes a late game and mid late game spell caster more versitle and also allows the possiblity of double buffing (stone skin, and wind armour deflecting arrows)
I agree but would like to see a system with more customization. The magic system isn't in yet so I'm not sure how much we will be able to customize ou
Perhaps each trait could have a stat requirement?
I like the idea of stat requirements. Maybe not for everything but having a sovereign with 1 dex (assuming we can lower abilities) and the assassin background doesn't really fit for example. Also your Adventurer ability got me thinking. I think it might be a good idea to have a visibility associated with "goodie huts" that is determined at the beginning of the game when each one is generated
Re planes. Planes were in those early games because of the memory limit. We don't have that memory limit. 640k is long gone. Bigger maps.
I don't think the base game necessarily needs them but underground areas, planes, etc would be very nice. Hopefully you make it possible for modders though. Larger maps are not necessarily the same thing as there were differences in how the planes acted and underground restricts mobility and could have the poss
I really like the direction you are going with this. Would just like to add that there should be some options effecting magical abilities which others have mentioned.
Okay guys, let me give a warning here: If journal entries are going to have to be presented in "marketing speak" then they're going to go away entirely. Under the covers, it's all "basic" or "generic". The C++ or XML only cares about the values and categories. When these DEVELOPER journals are provided, they're provided in that way. They're not here as some sort of preview. We can talk about flavoring of these values and their organization at the same time. <
I agree with most/all of the above comments. I'm just a bit disappointed that the initial proposal for the sovereign is so basic. MOM is supposedly a major influence on this game and your channeler customization options there are much more varied and interesting (artificer, warlord, spell bonuses, etc). I was looking for something at least as good as that.
Just looked back at some old lists and see you need Deus Ex and Knight of the Old Republic (and maybe 2 also) on your list. Definitely at least deserve to get nominated.
