Allow the players to choose the factors they want in their games with pre-game slide bars: Lots of resources or few, cheap mana spells or expensive, lots of minor kingdoms or not, massive numbers of NPC badguys or few... Use slidebars to allow each player to get the maximum style of game they like. This will help make the game more fun all around.
I'm not sure about the balancing as I haven't played in a while but the above is definitely something
Dominions 3 Fantasy General (really this is a war game, no city/empire building at all) HoMM AoW:SM MoM
Yeah, I think that's about it unfortunately and I wouldn't even have put Fantasy General (Fantasy Wars is kind of a spiritual successor too if you like it) on the list. It's a good fun game but it's not a 4x game. There were a few really old games such as Sword of Aragon and some Dragonlance game I neve

I've never even heard of the game. Please post your thoughts once you've played a bit to let us know if it is something worth looking into.

I'm just a big Dragonlance fan so I'm really looking forward to seeing the mod. If there is any little thing I can do to see it come to life, I'll do it. I'm not sure if scanning some images really qualifies me to be in the credits but I'll leave that for you to decide. It's your baby.
Bro, you're the MAN!!! That's awesome. Don't worry too much over the huge maps. I've got plenty of map sources for most things. Give it a look through though and use your best judgment on what you think would be helpful/useful.
Ok, I am done with all the scanning. I gave you everything so you can get a good feel for it even though some is probably pretty useless to you. I put it in dropbox, let me know if you have any issues with it. <a href="http://
The elemental spell books (earth, air, fire, water) will get moved out of character creation and into the tech tree so that players can determine what spell books they want. This sounds not so great... I can already determine which spell books I want. The problem is that there is little to no trade off for picking them and not enough difference between the books. Moving the spell books into the tech tree only makes things worse. Rather than having to spend a (what could be)
On a side note I used to own some of the Dragon Lance modules and may have DL 11. I had one that had armies in it at any rate but can't remember the number. If I remember it was smaller scale than the whole war so it might just be one of the other DL modules though. Unfortunately over the years I lost some of my stuff so I may not have it anymore. If I do have it I will see if I can scan it or something if you still can't find a copy and would like to look at it.
Turns

Releasing a game early is just a bad practice. Yes, there are some that will understand and will continue to follow the game and may be rewarded one day with the best game ever but few are that patient. If the initial impression is bad they will leave and never come back. Not only that but the company gets a bad reputation that will effect sales of other games they release in the future. It's even worse for Stardock because of the gaming bill of rights they released wh

I was a big fan of the game as well but I haven't played it in ages. I would definitely be someone who would play your mod but I don't think I have enough time to actually help. I wouldn't be able to help with sound or graphics anyway and that looks like it's what your mainly looking for. Personally I would like to see a mod that was as close to 100% faithful to the original as possible, at least initially. Doing a Sword of Aragon+ would be nice also but I'd really lik

I agree that having many factions would make the game more interesting than just having two sides and I favor the "war" version more than the "rpg" version. Handling the two gods might be hard to pull off though with multiple sides and I can't say I have any good ideas on how that could be handled. It would be cool if they could be side players that had their own motivations and would help out here and there. On a side note I used to own some of the Dragon Lance
One thing that frustrates me though, is the ultra slow and unchangeable mana regeneration rate, sigh.
Yes, this makes magic very unfun. Give us more control over the mana regen rate through stats, buildings and/or level ups. So far the only thing I found that effects it is a building that needs to be built in a level 5 city I believe. That's just to long of a time with having only +1 mana regeneration.
I find it strange that all the standard sovereigns have all the elemental books. They should cost more points, and you should be forced to pick 1 or 2 instead of getting them all. This would add some diversity to the game, something that it needs desperately.
Exactly my feeling. Why even bother have different books if everybody has them all?

Thanks for the new patch. I had a few minor requests for future patches when you guys get through the major stuff. 1) Everytime I get a new patch from you guys all of my settings are reset which is quite annoying. Is it really necessary to change my auto move, mouse settings, ect everytime there is a patch? I just get the impression there will be lots of patches for this game and having to remember all my settings (I change a lot of them) is rather annoying.</p

I played a game last night and the AI didn't even do anything on normal difficulty? They never built anything beyond the starting city and that had no improvements well into the game. The sovereign never even moved. Braindead is one thing but they need to at least actually try to play the game. Does the AI work for others or on other difficulties? I know this will be fixed shortly if it is happening to others but I'd actually like to be able to play tonight so I
yeah except watching the battles won't be optional for anyone. I don't approve of them adding them back to MP personally cause a game that should take 4 hours now might take 16. (and no thats not an exaggeration)
They have a threshold setting in the options that lets you specify when tactical battles happen. Just use that if you don't want them, not sure what the problem is. I see both points but there is something in place that should allow both to co-exist
It took me about 5 hours to complete it. That's with me knowing how to play the game of course. I'd expect a typical user it would take them about 8 hours.
Really, that's pretty short for a turn based game. I guess the campaign is really only one part of the game but I was expecting something more along the lines of 20 hours especially since you guys were saying how you were focusing on the single player game. I assumed it would be play a larger part of the
About question three, the answer is that its possible, but we don't know what will be in the final version. During the beta there was an "Ogre camp" resource which you could build on that would enable the city that harvested it to train ogres. So even if there aren't many trainable monsters, there will definitely be the capability to mod them in.
There is also supposed to be a mechanism of gaining special units by conquering neutral cities. I don't have a single core so I don't know how bad it is for them but I myself don't find it bad (dual core). I think what you really need is a progress indicator. Waiting is fine, waiting with having no idea how much longer it is going to take can be very frustrating. Also I find the inconsistancy in loading times very odd. I really can't remember ever having a game have such drastic differences in loading time. The problem is expectations. If it loaded fa

Well I understand where you are coming from but I don't like adding things that don't make sense and massing attacks is something that should work. The problem is that it is too easy to do, not that it shouldn't be as viable. There are a few things you can do to accomplish something similar and would feel right. (Didn't read all the posts so forgive me if others have already said these things). 1) Units can't easily move through/by another unit. Add in zone of

More diversity. Hoping this is coming with the polishing we are not seeing but in the Betas I didn't feel there were enough meaningful differences with races, factions, armor, weapons, spellbooks, etc. The faction differences is one of the main things in MOM and MOO that keeps me coming back.

If the game is great people will find it regardless of coverage. It's a niche game but it seems there is a hunger for a good 4x fantasy based game so that will draw some in. If they play it and love it people will talk and more people will buy it who are into these kinds of games. The question is how good will this game be? There aren't many that reach that special place where they immediatly grab you and are remembered forever. If the game is just good and no mu

That would be fine with me. I just find myself continually going to units that have automove set and manually moving them anyway which defeats the purpose. Once this becomes a lot of units it is very tedious which means I'll start getting lazy and then having out of date information. That's why I like having the movement happen upfront, I simply don't use automove in areas where I feel I need to be careful. Automove should also be smart enough to stop the automove

One thing I'd love to see a mod for is the way that automovement is handled. Stardock obviously likes it the way it is so it will not be changing but it drives me crazy. I really think automoves should be handled at the beginning of a turn so that I have as much info as possible. I won't go into all the reasons why but I would just like to know if something like this could be changed through modding? If not now what about when more code is exposed through Python later
