I wrote many, if not most of the quests in the Elemental games. And I did it with notepad. The system, is pretty arcane. I've asked for quest editors to be made internally but the problem boils down to - I'm free and I make quests so they can't justify budgeting a quest editor for me. But being painfully familiar with the XML structure of quests, my suggestion would be to ignore the way the XML is made and instead focus on what types of quests you want. So I&

I'm bummed about it too. I'm an icon guy. But Windows 7, and especially Windows 8, has really deprecated the importance of icons. I think we'll see some new program show up that lets people customize Metro Tiles or something to be less..hideous.

Well, your current and OUR current are different things. We've made a lot of changes since Beta 4 because, frankly, we agree with a lot of what has been said. There's more to do. But balance != new features. We don't need to come up with some new game mechanic in Beta 5 to address balance issues. It's not like we need create some new resource or invent some new type of cost. For example, and the modders can back me up on this because they are alre

If you had spent even a fraction of the time that you spent writing your post instead reading the actual facts of the matter, I suspect you would have come to a very different conclusion. We live in a society where people regularly claim they're against frivolous lawsuits and against rushing to judgment. And yet, time after time, people fail to recognize one when they see one and will still make loud, often hateful, judgments on things and people they really know nothing about.</p

You'll notice it. Big time. When you are playing it. It's like going from a non-anti alised Windows 3.1 fonts to clear type Windows 7 fonts. What I said to Neil: What you are doing here breaks the laws of god and science. Just to compare,

Thanks. I've made a lot of newer tweaks too in our build. For example, I made it a lot smarter about moving a hurt champ out of melee combat, healing and coming back in once healed and taking someone else's place. I made it also so that the archers are finally smart about moving way far away from the action before they shoot. Probably the biggest though is that there was a whole class of spells/buffs that the AI didn't know about -- special abilities

Occam's Razor is a tool that I wish people made better use of. Why is our turn over rate almost non-existent? Why is morale so high? We have people of all races, colors, orientations here. We don't care. What most of us have in common, however, is the expectation that while our rights as individuals will be respected, that no one person has the right to tell everyone else what is "appropriate" - even when they're not present. Here's an example of the type

The world is full of frivolous lawsuits. There's always several going on (usually IP). It's been my experience that most lawsuits, at personal injury related cases, are pretty frivolous. They make the case that it's cheaper to settle than to fight them out (and they are). But giving in just perpetuates it. And while I certainly don't enjoy getting pooped on by people on the Internet, it doesn't really matter. It just makes me less in

How are you getting them?

I found the article highly useful. Today I spent more time on the perf. Our biggest performance hit remains the outlines on the map (part of the art style). It can be turned off in the display options but we are still trying to find ways to improve the visual performance. Ironically, the outlines are designed to make the game visually look "simpler" -- which it does. But it is the single biggest performance hit in the game.

How long is beta 5 going to be? Without really changing the mechanics of the game itself, will there be several stages to this beta addressing the major things that people have been complaining about? ex: major bugs, t

The AI tries to get the first hit in tactical combat. So it won't just run blindly towards you but rather go slow until it has enough to hit you during its turn.
