@stenenaus i had already emailed that over when it first went up. I think there is a general consensus on the interdependencies. I think influence is under utilized and part of that is due to the AI relations bug I spoke of. Rid you can't manipulate the AI players against each other then you lose a vast number of playing styles. That's why that seemingly small bug has such large ramifications.

Great feedback! I've been sending Kael updates on this. I'm glad people are getting more specific on what balance and UI things they'd like to see improved on. The current plan is to have at least two more beta updates. They will mostly be bug fixes and UI tweaks and balance. The AI schedule is asynchronous with the other changes because so much of it is listening to your strategies or watching your videos and thinking what I can do to

Great article by someone who got seriously harassed by a so-called Internet troll. http://www.traynorseye.com/2012/09/meeting-troll.html?m=1 I've had to deal with a lot of crap over the years due to idiots on the net. The most recent due to gullible people buying into things they read on the net without critical thinking. Every comments section is filled these losers who regurgitate crap t

We're starting to put in pre-made maps that will be the default for new players. The random maps are supposed to be random. But I agree that they're not for everyone.

I can't vote and won't say. I will say that I have a long list of things that I hope to try out after release. The AI will always get better, especially once more players are putting up their strategies because like any game, we get better the more we play. I also have a long list of UI requests for future updates. Rally Points, Governors (tied into the path of the governor), etc. I noticed in beta 5C that you can now easily go between cities

We've talked about this before and I've asked Derek about this in the past. Here's the deal on this and it makes sense from an actual fun factor even if it seems less elegant on paper: All units always have weapons. Therefore, the balance on initiative is achieved by looking at what the average weapon does. The idea being that, from a percentage change to initiative, you are better in having a middle starting point and go up and down than to hav

What's really funny is that I had to update my video drivers for Windows 8 on my PC to play FE. But on the Mac, FE played fine under Windows 8 under parallels.

Greetings! Yesterday we released Elemental: Fallen Enchantress BETA 5-C. This build is our first pass at balance and UI enhancement. Next week we will have a BETA 5-D which will focus almost exclusively on bug fixing and balancing as well as some new AI counter-strategies so those of you who have posted your game play strategies online (foolish humans! ). We are reaching the home stretch. We will also have a Beta 5-E. After that, we'll see

Just got done playing a quick game of Fallen Enchantress on the Mac. Played it via Parallels 8 on my MacBook Pro Retina.

Interesting stuff. re the ai, the tricky thing here is that it's not scouting as much as it did. Or more to the point, our recent balance changes made scouts less valued by the ai. Scouts are how thneeding each other. i think it's going to take a couple more beta updates to really nail that down, to be honest. Next weeks beta update will include the ai response to ones player strategies from this week.

[quote who="Bellack" reply="109" id="3237401"] You know Brad I have read many comments over the last two years (has it already been that long) that you have written referring to GalCIV and many of those lead me to believe that you do not realise just how awsome GALCiv:TA actully was. That game was a masterpiece with only two problems 1. No Tactical combat. 2. No MP but other than that you made the true aire to Masters of Orion 2 (MOO3 was a POS) Now As far as FE go

[quote who="joasoze" reply="106" id="3237382"]@Frogboy. I think this game is moving in the right direction and with good speed. Since first impressions are vital, it is important to get the buglist down to a minimum before release. People have a tendency to take the first vocal comments as truths and never adjust that opinion. Therefore I hope for a few more bug/balancing patches before release. Dont rush it in the final stretch of the development. A good example is the disap

One must take great care in weighing the value of forum feedback. If you go to the Sins of a Solar Empire forum, you'd think that Sins Rebellion was a total disaster, a mess, unplayable, etc. I actually had to step away from reading that forum because I was getting so annoyed with it. Whether we released FE tomorrow or a year from now, you will always have people who think it's not done. Every time there's an article on a game site about Galactic Civili

I am gladdened by your warm thoughts of GalCiv. ;) But, in terms of *polish* (not raw content, AI, balance, etc.) I can't see how the two can be compared. The mechanics are largely hidden from the player. The game doesn't even have a real tool tip system. Why is my colony making X instead of Y? Trial and error. I agree that TA has a ton more maturity behind it in terms of practiced game mechanics. But that's only because it's the second expansion pack to

While WOM had a different game team from our other games, FE is the same games team that made GalCiv:TA plus new additions. I can't say I agree with the original poster, particularly with regards to our development process. We have a traditional QA/development process in addition to having public betas. The public betas help us make a better game. And we appreciate the feedback we get. But something like 87% of the actual serious bugs are reported and handled by our

I agree with much of what you have said. Simply put, until beta 5, this delicate dance between the role of the super heroes (the champions) and the role of your civilization has not gotten a lot of attention. And make no mistake, it is a delicate balance between the two. I think what you will see, in Beta 5B (the thursday beta) is the first balance pass that addresses the very issue that you, and us, have been concerned with for some time. IMO, the challenges inc

I'm not too excited about the way sea travel is typically done. I really don't like cities building harbors and then building boats and then having to load troops onto boats. I also don't like units turning into boats to cross the water. There has to be a better way.
