The guy running the custom server would have to keep the server running. It would be like having a website except in this case it's an Elemental world.
i don't "believe" in anything. My position is simply that we should listen to those in the best position with which to study climate phenomena, and since virtually all relevant scientific institutions support the AGW hypothesis, i find it remarkably arrogant that armchair quarterbacks feel that they know better, despite never having published anything on the topic. FYI- the world of science isn't built and shaped by posting on stardock's forums. Those that deny the consensus should pub
Renewable resources are a good thing. Why people are set in their ways to live forever on fossil fuels is beyond me. It isn't sustainable and with increasing evidence that it is harmful on the earth to burn, then we really need to look into ways to reduce their usage. Whether that be wind, water, nucleur, solar, whatever. We are way to dependant on oil and you can't deny that.
You're talking to someone whose new house should be 0-emissions in the summer thanks to spendi
Frogboy, your statement goes both ways and your example does nothing to prove anything. It could now be said that the consensus is that bacteria causes ulcers. So what exactly is the point to your statements? Why is it that we "know" that ulcers are caused by bacteria? Because of science correct? The reason why we even have consensus with a lot of the things people believe is true is because of science. Science creates consensus. Does science get things wrong sometimes? Yes. Bu
I guess our skeptics don't really keep up much with the literature so for those interested here's a link.
Please. Most skeptics, myself included, aren't close minded that humans could affect the climate. We are skeptical about CO2 being the proposed culprit. I don't lose sleep about the issue. If you want to believe CO2 is causing climate change then knock yourself out. The issue isn't very complex (the CO2 hypothesis anyway). It's j
There won't be any new public updates until Feb 4. No new beta testers until Beta 2 which is (looking...) February 25th. So now you know if we're running late or not, if those dates changed, we're running behind. :)
Q: If I have three towns built, is there any handy way to cycle between them so I can see what they are all doing? Not yet but there should be. If there isn't by beta 3, yell and yell loudly. :) Q: Map scrolling, via click and drag only? Edge scroll should be in soon. Q: How do I get more essence? Level up. Q: Why do ho
I know I have said this before, but I will say it again. Before Impulse, it seemed that the only thing digi distributors ever did was sell games at retail price which was one of the reasons I never bought from any of them. Why would I when I could grab it off of Amazon at a lower price or new releases from places like Circuit City for 10 or more off the 1st or 2nd week of release? I mean for awhile Walmart had one of Steam's own titles at 10 dollars less for weeks too.
I really like this graphic. Evolution is a great counter-example of the global warming argument because one does not have to resort to "the wise scientists have a consensus" to support the theory. The theory of evolution makes intuitive sense to me as well as makes a number of predictions that have been shown to be true. When
Steam's Christmas sale is pretty awesome and exciting, something more of Stardock's sale lacks.
You guys should go on Archive.org and look at the Steam home page this time BEFORE Impulse existed. Here's Christmas Eve 2007: Steam http://web.archive.org/web/20071224202630/www.steampowered.com/v/index.php and Direct2Drive: <a href="http:/
But let's say, for the sake of argument, that we don't know if global warming is happening, our response should be what then, throw as much polluntants into the air and shrug at species struggling to survive and just say well we didn't do it? Forget the political chest puffing about global warming and let's focus on more general ideals like pollution is not a good thing so creating less of it is good, and maybe it would be nice if some of the animals and other wildelife w
Ok, but you believe that the globe is warming right?
I am persuaded that the recorded temperatures have been on the increase since 1976 with a peek in 1998 and have largely leveled off since there.
Frogboy, you don't deny global warming right? Only Man-made?
I don't deny either. Denying would be saying that they're not happening. For that, I would need to provide compelling evidence to support that and there isn't any evidence that I find compelling to indicate that the world isn't warming or that man is definitely not causing it.
If 2010 turns out to be the warmest year on record wouldn't you agree that he's full of shit?
I'm game. What happens if 2010 isn't the warmest year on record? And if it is, for the sake of argument, then what? Let's say 2010 ends up being the warmest year in modern history and even skeptics like myself are persuaded that humans may be a material driving factor. What's next? What, specifically, should be done that will actually
Re why are people skeptical: Ignorance? Ideological?
any/all of the above? mostly imo its ideological in nature. because environmentalism is part of the platform of the evil "left" all those that oppose the left feel they should oppose AGW as well, because in their minds it has a political, rather than a scientific basis.
As a skeptic, I think I am in a good position to speak to this. AGW has very little scientific basis for it.
The problem is that to further their ends does not require them to prove anything. All they have to do is to point to the talking point du jour and thereby claim that there is some kind of "controversy" or that the science isn't "settled".
On the other hand, global warming advocates sound a lot like the Jehovah witnesses who think that the bible is "proven". The hypothesis of AGW is pretty straight forward. It is not difficult to be skeptical of the "science".</
will the AI continue to be "smartened" after the official release of the game?
Heh. Any GalCiv II players want to answer this for Scoutdog? :-)
Our intention is to allow players to set up dedicated servers that they can control. The typical scenario will be to just play on our servers. But we would like to see people be able to set up their own servers. Anyone ever play Stellar Frontier? We did much the same with that game back in the day.
Spells will require control of shards to cast. Which types of shards and how many of them depend on the spell. What we decided not to do is make it so that one sits there and builds up "fire mana" through the course of the game since that basically makes the outcome pre-determined. Seriously, some people need to cool off a bit and wait and see.
By the time the deniers and sceptics have done, it will be too late to take preventative action. We have only the one planet, let's not lose it because of just a few people.
Okay, Fuzzy, I'll bite. If you were emperor of the world what would you specifically do to take "preventative" action?
So what precisely would it take to prove AGW right in the mind of a denier? Obviously there's nothing that can do so.
To a denier? I don't know. To a skeptic, some basic evidence would probably be a good start. The questions that need to be answered (all must be yes): 1. Is the climate on a definite, continually warming trend? 2. Are such warming trends unprecedented in the past? 3. Are humans the primary cause? 4. Is a wa

UPS is fine. But they made a big thing about boycotting Fox News (not a particular program but all of it). When it backfired, they recanted and said "Oh no, we're not boycotting anything..." So I made a comment on Facebook that it annoyed me that UPS was using their business as a political tool. This got reported in the media as me supporting "Glenn Beck" (who I've never watched before) which in turn got a bunch of people really ticked off that I was getting political.</p
Speaking of those charts you had complained about the decade bar chart and I responded with line graphs with a closer zoomed in view of the more recent past. Care to make any response to my claim that, specifically pointing to 1998 to the present as exhibiting proof that global warming has somehow stopped, is cherry picking a convenient starting point favorable to your claims?
I would have to look at the graphs. ClimateWatch.org is about as unbiased as the CATO ins
