I don't think anyone will hold it against me if I defend the game I designed and led development on (Galactic Civilizations series) when someone says we haven't cracked the top 100 games.. First: Go here: http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=pc&cat=0&year=0&numrev=4&sort=0&letter=&search= that lists the top g

I'll be buying Civ 5 on day one, hopefully off of Impulse. :)
I remember when Galactic Civilizations was being developed it was supposedly doomed because Master of Orion 3 was also in development. The two games shipped within 30 days of each other.
Most spells won't require any shards. Others will use shards as a "wild card". Think, Magic the Gathering. :)
when is beta going to finish 2012?
When it's done.
A lot of the answers to these questions will come through the beta to be honest.
Can't wait. When can we start pre-ordering it on Impulse?
I hope so. 2K seems to have narrowed what digital distributors it wants to put titles up on. Bioshock 2 is only on Steam and D2D for instance.
Putting science terms on this just makes it less fun
Each sovereign will be provided a midicholorian count...
Yea Stardock and GPG do work well together. Just make sure you have a multiplayer system BEFORE release this time lol.
I can say emphatically that any future titles we publish will require the developers take care of their own MP (either made themselves or licensed).
Very nice. I'm writing this from a Thinkpad X40 that I just put in a 32 GB SSD and it has revitalized it. A 5 year old machine is now perfectly useful today.
I don't (or hope) that was not what he was implying. We have very good relations with GPG. I don't think anyone at GPG would ever characterize our involvement in Demigod as anything other than life saving. As for Kings and Castles, it's too early to say on that. You're looking at a game that is quite a ways out. It will be cool to see how it evolves.
I should clarify there: Being an Empire does not make one inherently evil. By most moral human standards, the Magnar, Urxen, and Trogs are pretty evil though to varying degrees (I'd say the Magnar are the ones who would be most classically "evil").
A few quick answers to some of the questions: 1. The Empires ARE NOT evil. The Empires use death magic and that means the areas they control on the map visibly look different than the lands controlled by kingdoms. We only have two such philosophies because it would become virtually impossible to have more than 2 cosmetically different sets of land tiles (not to mention cost prohibitive). When players battle, if they're on land that is influenced by d
Is using the avatars on civfanatics.com - where they would get significant exposure - acceptable? Or is that prohibited? Does it require a sig or something promoting elemental?
That's fine. The main thing we want to avoid is someone using them for some generic fantasy use.
Do not mess with Procipinee...
:-) Yea the Sins update is a pretty big deal. Lots of tweaks to pirates and other improvements. I've been trying to stop playing Sins -- but keep failing.
On the bright-side, we get another week to polish and add features, so 1G is gonna' kinda' blow everyone's brains out their skulls!!!
Heh. I don't think so. It'll just be slightly less painful.
Hopefully this has't been mentioned in other places and I just missed it - Until this journal there were 6 fallen and 6 man factions - why the change to 5 each? Making room for custom factions on each side? Just curious.
Precisely. We decided to reserve the art assets for the other two factions as assets that players can use for custom factions.
Players can create a faction. When they create a faction they can choose its race from one of the pre-existing ones OR create their own race. Then they can choose their allegiance - Empire or Kingdom. The choice of allegiance is the one that determines whether they use death or life magic and its environmental effects.
Brad dodes have a tendency to reuse plot elements and names in a lot of his stuff... there was an old RTS called........ ermmmmm...... ummm........ (I forget and have no idea where to look it up).......... well, anyway, it had all of the GC2 races in it (their names, anyway) but was not connected to GC2 in any fasion.
Uh? What?
Maybe GalCiv's development team = Elemental development team ?!
It is. Incidentally, it is all one univer
Allegiance determines whether they practice life or death magic. The Kingdoms practice life magic. The Empires practice death magic. The race of the Krax are a sub-group of men who are on the side of the Empire for instance. They are men who practice death magic.
Please oh please oh please have summonable monsters and creatable constructs (golems)
Oh yes. Couple examples: From the Book of Revival: Summon Wisps. There is also an entire book called the Book of Curses. You can turn a target unit into a sheep for N turns.
Battles are turn based. However, by default, they are continuous turns (turn button pushed automatically but can be turned off).
Hi guys. New players won't get in until Beta 2 which is currently scheduled for March 18th.
