Brad, How long is the campaign that comes with Elemental: Destiny's Embers? Just curious in case that sways anyone's interest in purchasing the book. Storm
Probably about the same length. Though it will come in 3 parts so it'll probably be somewhat longer in total. The tools were still maturing when we did the Relias campaign for Elemental.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 19 GalCiv II and Sins of a Solar Empire didn't come with campaigns at all. Didn't GalCiv II come with the Darklords campaign?
I could be wrong. All the campaigns in GalCiv II were pretty terrible though. The one in Elemental is, by contrast, pretty good IMO. It's just not super long. It could certainly last some
It took me about 5 hours to complete it. That's with me knowing how to play the game of course. I'd expect a typical user it would take them about 8 hours. Really, that's pretty short for a turn based game. I guess the campaign is really only one part of the game but I was expecting something more along the lines of 20 hours especially since you guys were saying how you were focusing on the single player game. I assum
yea the problem is where to get 100milions for elemental http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starcraft2/news.html?sid=6269369
We had about 3% of the Starcraft 2 budget to work with and that figure counts the engine budget.
Quoting fatindian, reply 88 hours seems short for a single player campaign, but remember that the meat of the game is in the randomly generated non-campaign games and the mods. It doesn't make sense to devote the company's resources towards a 20+ hour campaign when most people don't play these types of games for that. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that the heart of Elemental will be the randomly generated maps and I
Hmm, a game mode based solely on special tactical battles? Sounds yummy. You could do all sorts of things with that concept. Best regards, Steven.
I agree. When you guys start making your own tactical battle maps it'll become really obvious the kinds of things you can do.
Okay then, same as first post except replace "in the Day 0 release" with "as soon as possible after release". Best regards, Steven.
It's going to be high on our list to release no matter what because we want to have tactical battles available as a stand alone game mode because THAT is fun for a large percentage of people. The only feature in MP that is likely to be "gimped" for a long while are the que
After seeing what the Blizzard guys went through, I think we're pretty prepared for anything. I mean, Starcraft II, IMO, is about as perfect of a release you can get. I.e. unlimited budget, unlimited time to do exactly what they want with the result being an outstanding game. I'm not even sure how I'd improve on Starcraft 2. By contrast, I have a list a mile long on things I want to add to Elemental over the next few years.
Just wondering if there is an estimate on how long the campaign takes to complete?
It took me about 5 hours to complete it. That's with me knowing how to play the game of course. I'd expect a typical user it would take them about 8 hours.
It's not an option we can have in day 0 at this point because it's not been in our QA matrix in some weeks now. We can revisit tactical battles as an option in MP for a future free update. But there's no scenario where it will be in for day 0.

The screenshots don't do it justice really. The game shows off the best in m otion.
I'm excited to start the next installment.
The Empires have a response. Coming up soon.
My general view is that just as single player shouldn't get shafted for MP, I don't like the idea of MP getting shafted for single player. I think that MP should get special attention over time. I think there's a lot of potential for this over time that we should (and will) visit. I like the idea of wizard duels more and more.
