If the info is elsewhere on this, I apologize, but can we expect books 2 and 3 to be more significant in terms of gameplay hours than book 1 (which took me about 2 hours, and I was taking my sweet time)?
I'm not sure how they will work out. I'm writing Book 2 and 3 myself and the tools are somewhat more powerful now than when Book 1 was made. The campaigns weren't really designed to be a major feature of the game

The second expansion pack, next year, is also planned to be free for users who own the game before v1.1 is released (first expansion free for all, second free to those who were with us from before v1.1).
The only reason I think people are comparing this to Civ V is that they are basically in the same genre--tbs strategy games. Likely, those who like this game will like Civ V also. Personally, I'm pretty excited that I'll have two new games to sustain me for a while, both Civ V and this game. Very rare that it will happen, since (good) tbs strategy games are pretty rare. Of course, I still get in a good GC2 game on occasion

Version 1.08 has mostly been bug fixes and work on getting MP ready to launch. I did some balancing and AI tweaks but most of the gameplay updates won't happen until v1.1. v1.09, which comes out later this month, will be almost purely about performance, compatibility, and fixing bugs Now, v1.1 won't be some completely new game. It'll have a re-done UI in parts and the magic system is changed. Beyond v1.1, the first free expansion pack will have a new combat system, new

Thursday is our typical release update window which is what I'd plan on.
Sooner then that Brad.
I was making reference to MOM. I don't think many people remember how MOM was released but today is remembered as a classic. We're on Elemental until it reaches our expectations and that is a spiritual successor to the MOM genre (which, outside of MOM is a pretty lonely genre unless you extend it to include AOW, HOMM, DOM3, etc.).

All Devs I've worked with find undocumented features in the code. Some *** Developers hated me because I could usually crash any program by thinking like a normal user

(in the future, I have put in the request that a packaged quest can just go into the user’s quest directory) I hope you're able to get that implemented. Would it be a compressed file that gets stored or would it be a sub folder that gets copied? I'm hoping for the latter. With .NET you can set an option to

No matter what, v1.08 is coming out this week. The question will be whether MP will be in it and if so, at what level. The QA team and dev teams are playing it (and in fact, based on the yelling, I think they're playing a Dev vs. QA game).

It's in QA now. My guess is that single player is going to pass, MP is going to require changes.

It's supposed to be submitted to QA this afternoon. After that there are 3 possibilities: 1. It'll pass and it'll go up in the next 48 hours. 2. It'll fail and go back to Dev for fixing at which point you're talking a week. 3. It'll pass but with required fixes before it can be released at which point you're looking at 48 to 72 hours.
I think expectations are set more realistically for MP right now, Brad. As long as people can form games, there shouldn't be much of a problem. Everybody knows what the gameplay is like, and how it's going to improve in 1.1. So try not to worry about it. Once it's running it's one less thing to worry about.
There's a considerable level of depression here across the team that is, admittedly, affecting things. I don't

I and others work exclusively on single player. The MP doesn't affect things too much though we do feel that given it's on the box that this needs to go up. The challenge with MP right now is that there's a real internal loss of, well, confidence. If this were pre Elemental launch, the MP feature would have been turned on last week as planned. But now there's a fear of "what did we miss? are we going to just get blasted again?" My priority is on the single player game an

My wish list includes: Quest editor (make it easy to make quests) Goodie Hut (notable locations) editor General game rules exported to Python These are things that I've put on the list as things that I'd like to get done sooner rather than later.

This isn't set in stone but this is what we're thinking about: New Tactical Battle System A turn is made up of 10 phases Combat Speed determines how often a unit can take an action: Speed 1: Unit moves at phase 5 Speed 2: Unit moves at phases 3 and 7 Speed 3: Unit moves at 3, 5, 7

The AI is painful right now because there are too many O(N^3) systems in the game that make AI being intelligent very difficult. Balance and more refined mechanics will help and make the game more fun IMO. But we're going to run things by you guys before we do anything too radical. :)

The latest poll shows that people are very interested in us taking a new look at the combat system ( https://www.elementalgame.com/journals ) One of the biggest complaints we have seen is that weapons are 1 D N where N is the max the weapon does. While 1 D N is the same system GalCiv II uses, the difference is that in GalCiv, a ship might have many weapons which would tend to equalize the overall damage. Simply put, th
