"Microsoft Research Asia released a new paper introducing VASA, a framework for generating lifelike talking faces. The researchers presented their model, dubbed VASA-1, that can generate realistic videos based only on a single static image and a speech audio clip."

Very impressive technology, but also very disturbing. It's getting to the point where we will not be able to differentiate between deep fake and reality.

All AI does is take away human creativity, it could eventually take away needed jobs, and people are even developing music with it now! Gee, why bother to have artists, bands or singers anymore. I will have nothing to do with it, ever! [e digicons]:hrmph:[/e]

It actually uses human created art to create algorithms for its own...that is to say, it plagiarizes human art. I've used it to create baseline images which I then work on, but I don't call what I do art. Worse are the deep fakes...and I agree we'll get to the point where they'll be impossible to verify/refute...and that bodes extremely ill for us all.

I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, with all the billions of dollars being invested by all the big players, i think it's only going to become more imbedded in everything with which we interact. Our best hope is to pass laws to control it. All you have to do is look at China whose population has no privacy whatsoever, to see what can happen. Private data is already so pervasive on the internet, just Google your name and see how much data is out there for the taking. [e digicons]8C[/e]
