Cannot obtain LH via Steam, need help downloading

I was surprised (and saddened!) to see that I cannot download LH through the Stardock Store (which I love), but at Steam. I have a Steam account, and logged in successfully, but I see no way to enter my serial number (which I can see both on the confirmation email and on my page on the Stardock Store) for LH on Steam. All I see is an option to purchase it for $39.99, while I am simply attempting to download my copy. I've tried both the Steam website and the Steam client. Granted, I disliked Steam and don't have any other games purchased via it, and it has been a while, but I am obviously too stupid to figure out how to obtain my LH here. There is an option in the client under "games" which causes Steam to "scan for updates", but after waiting about 10 minutes without any result, I gave up.

Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Open steam, look at the top menu bar, click the games tab, click activate product on steam, add your serial key in the box that pops up. It should then start downloading automatically for you.

So, you want to goto the menu bar on the steam client

Then you need to activate the product on steam.

This is the step that I had actually found, and seems broken to me. In my OP I wrote that when I do this, I get the popup "scanning for updates" or "scanning for products", which hangs. I had to use task manager to shut down Steam after 30 minutes. Is it a problem on my end?

Seems the fourth time is the charm. Seems to be working now, apparently downloading. Can I DL this again when I get a new computer next month when I get back to Germany, or do I need to save the download and somehow transfer it to the new computer? Thank you

You can download as many times as you like on as many computers as you like, all you need is to log into your steam account and it's all set up. That's one of the main benefits of Steam, you can't really lose your games.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if Steam was like the Stardock download manager (which I much prefer) or if it had some kind of download-count which then forbids you to download a second time without further monetary investment.

If you think about it, the game is tied to your Steam account and you have to log into Steam to play (so far as I know). Logging into Steam with a new computer may mean you have to do a verification first (they will send you this by e-mail) but that's it.

No worries about a one-time verification on a new computer, but since I am still waiting for Steam to complete download, .... you have to be logged into Steam to play?!? So I need an internet connection to play a single-player game once I have downloaded and installed? Really, like Blizzard's battle.net? If that's the case, shame shame shame.

You need to be online to download and activate the game. After that you can run steam offline, if you prefer, and play. You don't have to be online to play LH.

I think it's genius, smooth and simple, and love how it is web-only. I am a longstanding customer and would cherish it if your products were (also) obtainable here. I'm not saying *only* or exclusively obtainable here, but at least *also*.

Just spent too much time trying to figure out how to activate my LH on Steam. (I am a Steam newbie) , My screen looked different than what Parrotmath's post showed. No drop down on games to activate LH. But in very bottom left corner (Had to scroll up totally) there was an "add program" After clicking on it and following messages, I did get to screen to activate. now in process of downloading. Maybe this will be of help to someone.
