[1.01 Bug] A Tale of Two Cities (err, a city and outpost)

Has anyone else noticed weird stuff when a city gobbles up an outpost within the city walls? I swear I've noticed the following:

  • I lose the upgrades when it gets gobbled up
  • I can then click the outpost within the city walls and upgrade them again - they enter the queue
  • Then they don't build correctly

Or am I smoking too much dope?

Other people have reported this, so I avoid doing it.  You are probably right about what you saw.

Derek - playing Sean's mod but this is a vanilla issue. Please note the outpost is within city walls and a warden and armory are built. Note, however, the warden and outpost are not upgraded anymore. Furthermore, it will allow me to build them again but the point is moot - the outpost is now worthless since building anything in them will just disappear. Also confirmed they do not exist as my units in the city do not have the armory buff.

Derek - also please note what happens if I raze the outpost. The tile becomes unusable and it leaves the upgrade graphics in the tile. It actually looks kind of cool but I've lost the use of those 4 tiles. In addition, because of this gobble bug I can't place an outpost near New Hallas that is functional...

Perhaps outposts that join the city should be automatically razed?

Btw, its a pain in the arse when AI gets your outpost by spreading his town near to it.  Everything that it was build for - all mines/farms etc that were in its zone of control - immediately goes for him...

Confirming the bug.

Outpost should not be razed, since they provide now bonuses to army there is a reason why you want to keep them close to a city.

There is generally problem with borders, and it is a loooong time problem. They do not calculate well, for instance, you can build the city right next to AI' borders and they will not move an inch, but if they build anything close to your border than you are in big troubles.

Pretty easy to avoid snaking to your outpost unless you put it there to reserve the spot for a later settler. Does it say unusable if you raze the tower and then build a town?

I am guess this is to avoid a meta game where you build your city around an outpost so you get really good bonuses applying to city defense.

The problem here is I did place the outpost next to the settleable tile but not on a diagonal... thus it was immediately incorporated into city limits. In fairness, I should have put the outpost on a diagonal and then not build anything near it to avoid it being gobbled up. However, that doesn't negate the bug exists which is unfortunate.

Try raising the outpost first and see if the tile becomes useable when you build the town.

The buildings that you build on the outpost gets transfered to your city. Most of which don't do anything, except for 2: The hightower and the consulate. You can abuse this bug by building an outpost right next to your city in order to build multiple hightowers (expanding your city ZOC all over the map) and multiple consulates (so that your city grows like no tommorow).
