So I marched up to a Gildish city with a catapult in tow, knowing what the AI had in store for me. Namely, an assassin'd-up Markin would get buffed with haste, stone skin, growth, and giant form to give him a whopping 200 attack. However, I had just defeated Markin, and advanced on his recovery city with a catapult.
I should pause here to mention that the growth spell actually shrinks the Markinn figure-- somebody put in the wrong scaling factor.
So I attack, and Markinn proceeds according to plan, buffing himself, but staying behind his units because he had about 8 hp. His units were also on the far side of a lake from mine. As far as I was concerned, the more distant the better, since he can deal about 200 damage a swing-- the criticals go up to nearly 400. Anyway. Come my catapult's first turn, I, of course, right-clicked on Markinn. I naively expected (this being my first time using catapults) that the catapult might hurl a rock at Markinn. Instead, both the catapult and Markinn glide (during the catapult's turn) into the middle of the lake. My catapult swings its arm, a "Miss" dialogue appears above Markinn, and my catapult gets counterattacked to the tune of 250 damage. It dies.
But what, I can hear you asking, happened to Markinn, now in the middle of the lake? Well apparently the lake became a valid square for him to occupy and move around in. He promptly moved through the lake to attack one of my units on the bank for another 250+ damage. It died. Markinn was now, of course, close to all of the units I had, and killed them all within his next three moves.
