[bug]: When doing two summons in a row with two different casters, one summon gets erased.

Use two different casters to summon two different things in battle, say summon Earth Elemental and summon Ice elemental. First to cast is cast, second one vanishes form the casting list ( mana is still wasted in the initial casting though).

One thing that is not made clear is that you can only have one spell charging up at the same time for the whole side in a battle.  However if the bug is that an elemental has already appeared and then disappears, then that is something different.

Ah, no, that explains what is happening. I can have only one spell charging up? That's... stupid... I should be able to summon two elementals at the same time.

 

I do so enjoy stomping over the enemy with three Earth Elementals.

Anyone know why elementals summoned during battle disappear after the battle but elementals summoned outside of battle stay with you? Seems like a bug.

Tactical summons last for the battle, strategic summons last until you dispel them or the summon dies.  Quite a few games allow both permanent and temporary summons.

The frustrating part, I believe, is that the cost is the same in tactical and strategic. I can't test that now, but I think it was 30 mana in strategic and the same in tactical. If it's that way, why can't I keep the unit around permanently after the battle? Either that, or reduce the cost in tactical if it's not permanent.

I'm not sure if that's a bug or suggestion, so I'll file it as both.

Back to the OP, I'll have to test out summoning twice during battle.

Strategic summons have upkeep costs and take up space in an army. This is an well thought out game mechanic. The advantage of a tactical summons is having more than 9 units. It is worth the extra mana. This thread explains it pretty well:

I understand the advantage/difference between strategic versus tactical, but what I don't understand is:

1. Why am I not allowed to keep the unit (if possible and desired)?

2. Why is the spell cost the same between tactical and strategic?

Since tactical summons are for the battle only, either they should remain the same cost and strategic should be higher, or they should be cheaper. With the current system, it's a waste to cast summons during battle other than avoiding a maintenance cost. A simple value tweak in the XML should fix that.

Have you ever waltzed over an army with 3 Earth Elementals and 8 Earth shards? Mana well-spent.

Not saying summons aren't a good thing during battle. Just saying that it should be treated differently than just no mana upkeep. Certainly having elementals on your team is a big advantage. I love trying to level up a sand golem, which is hard to do with its low initial HPs.
