It sort of does ruin my appetite. Where it doesn't bother me is in milk rice, you know the sweet pudding. Yumm, if maggots taste that good cooked in milk and served with apple sauce and cinnamon, I would eat them too.
We don't celebrate thanksgiving, it isn't that sort of holiday in Germany. But we have other holidays that are fun, like the 6th of December, St. Nicolaus day. Kids will clean their shoes and boots and put them outside the door of their room on the night of the 5th, and if they were good and cleaned their shoes he'll fill them up with something. It is sort of reminiscent of american christmas stockings now that I think of it. Usually shoes are filled with oranges, tangerines, peanuts, walnuts, and a hollow chocolate St. Nick figure - all things to eat. It used to be fun - you wake up and had a nice surprise in your boots.
