Having never played or even seen Master of Magic, much less the "tactical battles" from it, what exactly are we talking about? What is a tactical battle mean in a TBS game? And I mean for strictly single player, because I have zero internest in multiplayer.
In a game like Civilization (or Elemental up to now), combat is resolved via autocombat/diceroll on the main map, and the results are

Random maps for MP are, IMO, critical to replayability. Hope that gets added, as I'm not sure how that'd detract from the SP experience, or why it wouldn't be enabled for both? Maybe Brad can elaborate. I could never get any of my friends to purchase GalCiv, because of it's lack of Multiplayer. I barely touched GalCiv for the same reason, never playing more than 20-30 minutes or so. MP is a critical feature for me, these days, and my friends and I still LAN Ci
We are also looking at having a level-up screen for cities that let players pick a bonus each time they level up to make those cities more powerful in a particular area.
Yes, yes, yes yes!! Customization + Interesting decisions = Great Game. I love this idea.
Oh man, I trust Stardock but I just gotta reiterate, please don't renege on the 64-bit post-release statement. The 64-bit executable is one of things I'm looking forward to the most. The 2GB limitation on other games just kills me, when I have so much more money just begging to be used.
Cool, thanks guys.
32-bit memory restraints has been our biggest challenge so far. One of our big goals for the game has been to really personalize the experience where each unit looks different. Right down to their hair, clothes, face, etc.
ACK! Does this mean the plans for a 64-bit executable have been scrapped?
Not to detract from RavenX's cool factor, but nerdgasm wasn't his invention ;)
Ugg, more of the **** from the "lore". I hope this obsession with the selling the book doesn't totally cripple the game. We already lost any chance of decent races because of that.
By chance are you the guy always running around as Drizzt or Legolas on every MMO I play? But yea, better not let that lore/story stuff ruin a good game, [i]that happens all the time!!![/i
The long, hard, scary time consuming feature is the AI. It’s the one feature that could delay the game beyond August 24th. If the game gets delayed, the alternative release is second week of February.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror...
In any case:
I busted out laughing seeing that picture. And I concur completely.
I'm sorry, but that just sounds freakin' cool! Ahhhh, I can't wait for this game to be released (yes I have the beta but I just like taking sneak peeks, I want to save my first full-on games for the finished masterpiece).
You have no idea how badly I want this game to be finished. I'm in the beta, and I have it pre-ordered, but this is sounding so good that I want to buy it again. Seriously, if someone were to dredge my brain for "Top features to have in a strategy game", out would plop Elemental... of course, Elemental has a lot of stuff even I wouldn't have thought of that sound awesome. Keep up the great work, guys!
The ipad (I cringe every time I type that, a truly horrid name), it seems to me, has woefully inadequate hardware to run a game like Elemental. Nevermind the fact that it's running the iPhone OS...
THis literally makes future Ubisoft titles unplayable for me. I have a laptop that I play games on during long travel times or waiting in areas where I do not have access to an internet connection. This completely prevents me from playing any of their games. What a joke, this is seriously too funny. The best part is I can guarantee the product managers and executives truly believe they'll see a spike in PC game sales with this.
You go on and fight the good fight, Che. *rolls eyes* I seriously dislike DRM because it's ineffective, inefficient, and only incvoneniences legitimate customers rather than the pirates but as a developer of a (non-game related) software company that does unfortunately use DRM... it has nothing to do with trying to screw over the library of congress. It's based entirely on the belief that it will reduce piracy an therefore increase sales. They're wrong, but that's
That's fantastic, I was always a big fan of AoW's score.
Meh, I didn't have high hopes for it when it was announced as a multiplatform release. Now I can safely ignore it forever as I will not use Steam. Looks like Blizzard still wins my money for 2010 RTS of choice.
This is not a rhetorical question, but you do realize that the original SupCom was released on the Xbox 360 as well?
Geez, people, you act like Steam stumbled into your house drunk one night and molested your cat. For the record, I vastly prefer Impulse over Steam. I can see the objections to SteamWorks requiring the Steam client to be installed, especially from a competitor's (Frogboy's) point of view. But Steam is still a great service. Sure, it might be #2 in my book, but Steam does a lot of things very well, things that Impluse can't do (Yet!!). My objections to SupCom2
Absolutely, Tormy, MP will rock. I'm having to set up space for the 6+ people I know wanting to play this on my LAN at home.
TBS: Civ4 | Fall From Heaven 2 mod.
For PC Games, I read www.rockpapershotgun.com. Gamespot is a joke and has been for a long time. I really don't know why anyone bothers reading that site.
I think we all understand it, RoadRat. I enjoy those 15 minute games sometimes too, especially when I don't have much time. I think what people are trying to say, to butcher a phrase, is you're barking up the wrong genre. I understand fully what a car is and what a waffle iron is, and I enjoy both, but I don't expect my car to make me breakfast.
Depends, Tater. If you're talking random online matchups, I completely agree. If you have friends that you play with it's very reasonable, you just can't do it in one sitting :D
And to me that generally spells terrible because, i'd rather not sit around all day on a match that was supossed to last 10-15mins.
I'm not sure where the disconnect is occurring, whether it's on my end or you're unaware of what type of game Elemental is, but I can't imagine any TBS 4X game taking 10-15 minutes to complete. Did you mean days perhaps instead of minutes? Or by a match do you mean a turn? I'm just a little confused.
