Which is why I said what I did. Originally tactical combat was supposed to be realtime, with huge scale. So saying that essence differs from the forum thread enough that it's worth scrapping outright now doesn't say much, since it's another in a long list of things that are totally different from where we started. At this point, "essence" is a loaded word for something that doesn't really exist in 1.09 eithe
Quoting Derek Paxton, reply 9 ...Essence is gone, units dont have individual mana anymore, global mana is used instead (as it was in MoM). ... I'd love to see some extended explanations of this decision. The essence vs. mana distinction seemed like the functional idea that would/could let Elemental be a true step forward in the fantasy TBS genre, and I can't see any reason that it would be in conflic
That's why #1 is there. If it doesn't work for you, they can give you a refund. But because it doesn't work for you doesn't necessarily mean that they globally violated #2.
You know I read a lot of your posts closely as I find your logic intriguing and your opinions relatively well-grounded, but to claim didn't "globally violate" the GBoR #2 is absolutely absurd in the extreme. #2 explicitly states:&nb

Elemental will probably end up with a similar Met
In any case, my point is this: Every game must be judged on its version 1.0 as this is the version that is being sold to you. Patches are for adding additional content and balance tweaks not addressing basic stability issues. Just because Stardock is an awesome company and we know they will be supporting this game for years to come does not give them a pass to sell us something that must be updated to run without issue. A bear who sh--s in the Woods is far weaker: http://screencast.com/t/MWNhY2FjNm ...than a Sovereign's summoned bear: http://screencast.com/t/NWY0MTQ0 which is just rather silly.
As shown in the following screenshot, the Sovereign was unable to attack the spider with "0" Swords/Shields (no weapon) despite the fact the Sovereign had a powerful offensive spell (lightning). http://screencast.com/t/Njg3Yzk0YjY Of greater importance, during AutoResolve when the Sovereign was begin attacked in the same kind of circumstance, the Sovereign died as the AI did NOT use the Sovereign's offensive spells. Perhaps a placeholder, but the spellbook icons for Enchantments and Summonings are the same artwork. http://screencast.com/t/YzUwNDBkMzMt
As shown in the screenshot below, Janusk is still reporting. Unfortunately, Janusk died in combat a few turns earlier. As I had no other character units, there was no other way to report information other than "from the dead." http://screencast.com/t/MjJkZWEyMTU
I had this as well (no save game file). But as noted by the poster, loading a new game fixed it. I believe it occurred when starting a new game (in the middle of another) BEFORE exiting the game to desktop. http://screencast.com/t/MWRkZmMzZ
Yes, I think it is somewhat "radical" as in I don't believe we have seen it in a game before. The current system is a 'safe approach.' Not bad, but not particularly inspiring. And, to point, I would bet that in the existing model you will see far more "Research Cat. Level" 5-3-1-3-2 (ad infinitum) games for the vast majority of players than you will see "Level" 9-1-2-1-1. The present game mechanic rewards the generalist approach and penalizes the specialist approa
The levelling approach in E:WoM is a pretty common game mechanic with respect to how it is presently accomplished. Achieving "Level 1" takes the same level of research in each of the five categories, geometrically increasing with each successive level. This does nothing more than encourage "balanced research" among the five categories which, according to many prior threads, sacrifices the flexibility to play the game specializing in a few categories (i.e. why spend 20 turns gettii
Also had the game hang on approximately turn 30 with an "Out of Memory Error." Had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to Task Manager (Win7) to close program. No dump file but .err file is attached. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8940115/debug.err
Is this Beta supposed to be the FUN one or are we not supposed to be having fun yet?? I'd hate to comment on the "fun factor" of Beta 4 if we still are supposed to be just bug hunting, etc.
this really should be changed
Change it?? Why in the world would you change it? It is CLASSIC! ***Your Sovereign Flees to Horntown Before the Final Stroke of Master Penis*** ...I gotta copyright that.
Frankly, I think the cloth map is probably the best game feature of E:WoM. Admittedly it was a slight rip of the idea from SoaSE, but the implementation in the fantasy setting is really well done. Just wish they'd put "sea shells" on the beach terrain to ID these in the cloth map.
. Re City Building always the same. We are thinking of introducing a maint cost on these things to discourage mass building of pointlessness. "In GC2 there was limited terrain and this provided thinking opportunities. In betas past, there was a limit at each city stage on tiles. While a bit annoying, now city building is just going through the motions. Its dull." This is indeed a challenge. &n
confirmed. Had this with the "special armor." If you do not defeat the "guardians" the Quest should be a fail.
One area with respect to Essence that is confounding our situation, even for me as I frankly switch my opinion back and forth between Essence being a re-chargeable resource versus a "one-shot" usage, is what should Essence be USED for ? Bottom line, if it is used for UBER-related feats then it should be one-shot, if it used for anything less than UBER it should be rechargeable. I think MANA should serve as the power-source for all things non-UBER, wh

More exceptional ideas in this thread. Want to throw out a concept that hatched based on all the threads I've read, linking Essence and Crystal Shards to bring about that Epic feel for Elemental: War of Magic . First, a few points that have to be bought in to for this to fly. ESSENCE Essence is a UNIQUE and DISTING
I think this is a really good idea but perhaps with even a bit broader scope. Essence still remains underwhelming, and has even replaced "Wisdom" in .90 screens. There are a lot of ideas floating around, but Essence should allow you to create one of the "resource" locales (except shards) whereever you might desire. This is reflective of the important POWER of Essence which is really gimped right now.
Once they fix that bug, the whole interface kinda bites. They should use the button to TAKE OFF a spell if you wish, othewise it should default ON the list to be cast.
I'm still trying to figure this out but I believe you have to click on the "favorite" icon in your spell book for the respective spells for it to appear in your Spell tab. I ran into the same problem-- no spells initially until I did this step. Very convoluted if this is the case.
